Oil running out of exhaust
Permalink

Hey you lot! Ive got oil running out of the end off my dep exhaust silencer. Its happened out of nowhere after a top end rebuild. Not sure if its a coincidence that its started just after a top end rebuild or not?

They did put a different brand of 2 stroke in it dunno if that would make a difference. They used motorex cross power 2 oil.

running out? if thats an exaggeration then its fine :D:D

some types of oil give off different side effects. some smoke bad, some smell bad, some smell of fruit n stuff, some make abit more liquid

its okay, mine drips aswell

but you shouldnt really mix oils up, if theres not much in there, drain it out and fill it up fresh with new oil

i recommend Silkolene comp 2 injector
its what 2 garages recommended.

Cheerz buddy!! Yeh running out was a bit over the top should of said dripping out!! Yeh ive also heard that aswell about mixing oils so im trying to stay to one brand now, ive only ever used fully synthetic tho. I used halfords fully synthetic 2 stroke before the mechanics put the motorex stuff in.

Will prob just stick to it now then coz the drips of oil dont bother me just wanted to make sure it wasnt a problem! From what ive read this Motorex Cross Power 2T is meant to be good. Ive heard a lot of ppl reccommed silkolene myself but have never seen it about.

dont need anything better than decent brand semi synth.. waste of money fully synth unless you race/run a highly tuned engine..

as for dripping oil.. mine does it too.. I think its a dep thing. my big one never leaked oil... did u replace the gasket? are the bolts tight? also you may have already realised but the standard studs are too long so you have to replace them or space them with washers else you dont get a tight fit..

race around more and it'll burn the oil instead lol!!

They think its do to with the hash up the mechanics made with the top end rebuild. They fitted a piston that was 1mm too small and the cylinder needed a rebore. They have got it back now fixings thier mistakes!!

Will see how it goes when i get her back on tuesday. It never did it before they had it so fingerz crossed it will be ok!

yeah hopefully it will be okay mate smile.gif

if there is a very slight rattle, ignore it, all 2 strokes do it.
take a video and post it on here, with the bike on tick over and rev it up smile.gif

I read wrong again haha should really stay away from the erb!

I thought u was on about leaking from the expansion from the exhaust port doh..

as for rattles then yeh they all do.. more noticeable on higher mileage bikes... once you've had your bike a few years you kinda get in tune with it and the slightest difference in sounds u notice.. top end rattle could be lil end bearings but on a rebuild they should be replaced anyhow...

also learn to fix your own bike. trust me. when I was a noob I took my scootay to a garage twice and twice they did something wrong. final straw so I learned myself.. prob saved myself a good few hundred in labour alone.. and haynes manual will pay for itself (or download it but shhhhhhh)

yep, i now only use garages for parts, advice and oil.

do all the work myself, was toooooo expensive.

cost me less to do the top end of my bike engine total, than it cost for the bike shop to do the rear brake side gasket on the engine .. expensive garages nonono

You are right about doing the work myself. I rekon i cud do a top end rebuild it does sound easy tbh. Im a gas engineer by trade if i can strip down a boiler a re assemble im sure i could do a top end on a dt! I wanna buy a yz 85 to practise on tho!!!

Ive built a pit bike from the frame up myself before its just engines ive never messed with!!

I knew my bike sounded different as soon as i started her after the work, i wasnt happy right from the start. I wish id recorded it my dad cud hear the rattle sitting in the front room while my bike was ticking over on his drive!!!

yeah it sounds bad. Well TBH, putting a piston 1mm undersize ... what a fecking retard!!!! never go back haha.

yeah its easy!! its a 2 stroke, piston go down, fuel/air goes in, spark plug ignites, bang, same again lol.

i did it myself, im a 17 year old still in sixth form!!

Forgot to update the thread!! After i had the top end rebuild sorted out by the mechanics the the oil stopped dripping out the end of the exhaust! It was the rings letting too much oil past, not suprised with a 1mm too small piston in!! lol

It's a film about a dog that runs around eating people because it has rabies, so it drools loads :D

My girlfriend pointed out I wrote rabis instead of rabies, it reads quite funny if you use rabis instead haha

The only time ive had oil run out the end of my tail pipe is when the mechanics fitted a piston kit that was 1mm too small. They fixed their mistake and fitted a correct size piston and oil has never ran out off the tail pipe again. Never did before either.

I get a few spots on my number plate tho.

the back side of my number plate is full black I haven't been able to fully open up on the bike yet as running in hopefully will stop after I give it a good blast

Yeh might just need a good blast! See how it is once you have been able to give it a good few miles hooning it about! After you have run it in!

IMO oil isnt supposed to run out the end of the tail pipe, down and drip off onto the floor but some spots spat out onto the number plate / L plate is normal.

yea sometimes I have had quite a lot of oil on it putting it down to running in and previous owner not looking after it and I suppose near death experince "for the bike" just being abused.
I feel like a shelter home :D
