i have a dt125r 2002 with 24000km on the clock it is a french import i have derestricted the exhaust take the reed switch out of the speedo and it will only do 80kmh!!! ypvs is set up does the cycle when u turn the ignition on i turned it 180 % to see if it was that and it made no difference at all please help me before i lose all hope in my bike im fed up of it now an just want it working as it should be.
This may be a a nooby question as its a french import does anyone know of the restriction laws over there as im thinking its the CDI wont let it go past 50mph but im really confused as a standard dt should do atleast 65mph PLEASE HELP ME!!!

mines a 2002 french import aswell, i can hit about 70-75mph and certainly have no lack of power, as far as i know the only restriction mine had was in the exhaust but i never had it from new so im not entirely sure, but im pretty sure it didnt have any CDI restrictions.

EDIT: haha actually ill tell you what, when i first got mine it wouldnt pass 60mph, turns out the airbox was filled with popcorn kernals biggrin, once i removed them all and replaced the filter it ran lovely.

hmm no, i wont be passing through bristol anytime soon, does it lack power in all gears? does it have a sudden burst of power after about 7500rpm, thats roughly when my ones powervalve opens and you can certain feel the power it get alot loader aswell.

well i think its my power-valve that is not working but it does the cycle and iv turned it 180 and still no difference iv looked up the exhaust port and it does move so i don't have a clue what's wrong with as for power it seems to go alright in all gears but the last really with a slight incline i got to go down a gear, my bike will rev past 7.5k rpm with no sudden burst of power in 1st and 2nd gear any higher gears it doesn't go past about 7k rpm!, bike does seem like a smooth ride going through the gears that's why i was wondering if it was restricted somewhere different

thanks for helping me i really appreciate this as i cant even sell the bike with the way it is without making a loss as iv only had it about 3 weeks and want to keep it really

Mines the same at the moment and Yammy reckon its the friction plate . Lost power in the mid section of each gear . Bike changes gears fine but there's deffo a power loss that's doing my head in . waiting till payday and sorting it out !!

if it was the clutch the engine would still rev up past 7500 it just wouldnt go as fast because not all the power is being transmitted to the back wheel, thats what i think happens anyway, my guess is the powervalve too, are you deffinatly sure its setup correctly, i.e opening when it gets too 7000 revs?

i absolutely guarantee its the power valve, thats not opening at all :)

my bike did the same as yours

best thing to do is remove the YPVS cables from the cylinder
now line the pulley rotaty thing (the gray circle thing the cables attach to)
line the hole on that with the hole on cylinder
use a 4mm drill bit or small rod and put it through the hole (looking up the exhaust port, make sure its absolutely flush with the exhaust hole, you might need to rotate it 180 degrees.)
then warm your bike up properly (it will sound different now, bit louder)
take it up the road, depending on how healthy the engine is but dont pin the throttle in first or second its lethal lol

ive never seen one for myself but id say its not opening fully, from what ive heard the powervalve should be flat with the top of the exhaust port when fully open.

thats really good!
i think your meant to rebuild when it gets to about 90 PSI.. 130 is gooood
im just running mine in, il get one done il be interested to see what it will be.

yeah thats good compression, rebuild when it blows up, it seizes, knocks or gets to less than 90 PSI..
