Breaking down

Is it just me or do we all break down about every 100miles.
I had been riding around all day and went to pop to the garage and heard a slight pop and lost engine power managed to bump start it again while in the process of breaking down but then it really died am thinkinkg it may have been due to the rubber gromet splitting and losing compression?? could this have been the cause of a break down?

Stick some exhaust paste between the connections aswell, i picked up a tube of holts gun gum from a local car shop, works very well then wrap it with your exhaust wrap. The paste expands as it is heated and seals any gaps, goes solid too.

This was pointed out to me in another thread:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Exhaust-Tailpipe-Rubber-Yamaha-DTs-All-Models-new-/180502266131?cmd=ViewItem&pt=UK_Motorcycle_Parts&hash=item2a06c60113

It kind of worked but for the first couple of weeks every time i came to a stop i could smell burning rubber i would get cars behind me flashing their headlights thinking me bike was on fire as it would smoke like a chimney haha. It's now been removed.

Has the wrap worked for you MisterDave?

Yeah couldn't understand it, did the same when i used some radiator hose too - standard front and dep rear. All i have now is just some exhaust paste between the two, seems to do the job.

Cool, can compression be adjusted if it is too high?
