hi ive got a dtr 125 and when its running it seems to lack in power its like theres not enough petrol going through it and it like picks up then slows down ive taken carb of air box/filter and thats not sorted it it sometimes nearly stalls when setting of you have to give it a few revs, and at top end its like its running out of petrol, the fuel mixture is 150mil 2stroke to 5 litres of petrol any help with this would be very appreciated thanks

How come you are premixing the 2 stroke oil? DTs get their 2 stroke by an oil pump and there is a 2 stroke tank at the front.

Have you got rid of the injection system or somet?

Fair enought buddy!! Yeh id try and get a second hand 2 stroke tank from somewhere to get that working as it should.

Id do what craig says aswell. Pin your PV should give you loads more power top end. You could try and source a PV motor and PV second hand to get it working the same as the newer dts. If you can put up with the rubbish bottom end with the PV pinned or if you always hoon it then leave it pinned!!

dont need a battery for it, i dont even know why DTs have battery tbh :S:S:S i put a completely flat battery in and it started 2nd kick:S

its a powervalve servo motor
and powervalve cables
and powervalve housing

i personally dont think its worth it for a field bike, pin it out and unleash the power :)

take the big bolt out the cap, remove the cap, ive never seen under there, but there should be something you can turn (may need a spanner) and line it up to the top where theres a hole. Line the hole up and pin it open with a screw or bolt or something

Try factory settings on carb, theres a post somewhere here with it, see what the jets are like maybe?

Sounds like carb is gummed up. How fresh is the fuel/oil mix? If it's gone funny it will leave waxy deposits in your carb, blocking passageways and just generally being a nuisance. pre-mix tends to seperate partially after a while and goes crappy.

Try draining what's in there and start again with fresh pre mix. If this doesn't work take the float bowl off the carb and check the float is operating properly-ie not sticking. Those waxy deposits can cause the float to stick. Removing the float bowl will also reveal if you have water in there. If this fails strip down carb and check every passageway. Blow through with air, or use fine wire. Obviously while you have the thing apart check the gaskets.

The fact that you say the bike sometimes runs ok makes me think this is related to fuel quality and or a misbehaving carb.

This is what I do with any carb thats troubling me. Hope this helps

btw what does your spark plug look like? Check the colour. Also just noticed you said it sometimes sounds like a "bag of spanners". If you're hearing metallic nastiness from the engine then your problem is now more complex than just a carb issue.

It's a case of narrowing it down by elimination. Start with spark plug colour, then check the carb over as above.

Have you set the oil pump up correctly? + did you totally empty the fuel tank and fill with fresh oil? if you didn't it could be too much oil going into the engine bogging it down.
