Yes it will.

Need to put an idler gear into the new engine, then just add the kick start lever, easy apparently

Break a leg?
What on a 125...?
smile
Call me old fashioned but electric boots just aint necessary, and anyway there is something just re-assuring about a kicker....they can be relied upon, always there, not in the way, and sure to work and with a 125 you dont even need a muscle to operate it haha!!

Oh and simmo...a 750 four would be a piece of piss to kick, its 750 twins that are harder like old bonnies, I kicked a 580 BSA / CCM motocross bike when I was a kid and i'm sure you'll know that's a big single, now that WAS a bit worrying but theres no way a puny 125 will break anyones leg

is there...? confuse

I meant on a 750 twin mate haha i was joking.... nope! on a DT theres not sump bash guard protecting the starter, so they always break, 4 stroke have more protection of the starter ......... on DTs they always break and you have to bump them..... even when i let my battery die, ignition left on overnight (DOH!), started second kick ! :O !

Yadda Yadda ... aww

Yea .. 750 fours ARE easy to kick up, my old man used to have a GS 750 [tho' carbs - 4 into 1 - Proddy racer prepared] which was one of the first leccy start bikes i ever saw .. but at the time the japs were worried no one would buy leccy start only ... so they fitted a kicker AS WELL ! [i used to steal it when he was out, and ride round locally, showing off to my m8's when i was 15 !!disbelief, but it was a bit of a handfull ! The one he had before that was Superdream 250, which wasn't such a beast, so we fooked off to coast, two's up, on it !! biggrin] ...

My mates 63 harley was kick only .. absolute
b@$tard !

and tales from my old man about 500 singles [Gold Star] & what a pig they are to start !!

DT's ...
When my bro' bought his DT [2001], we were amazed to watch him start it with his hand ! So the chances of breaking a leg are slim to Fook All aww

I've just got used to everthing been leccy start these days [lazy old get !] ...

.. and....

... the pain of trying to kick up a big four banger in a hare & hounds event ..  [pieca$hit XR400], when your absolutley shagged, covered in mud, the bikes just been upsidedown [with you underneath it !] .. 160 like minded
kno8heads bezzing past you at 40 mph, inches from your legs, spraying you in roost & $hite ... AND THE BA$TARD WONT
FU@KING START ..

By 6 kicks ... you want to DIE ! [NO, REALLY ! doh ! ]

So,  i embrace change & technology .. and i never want to see another kicker again !biggrin

They very rarely go wrong [and are a lot more robust than DT engineering in general ! 12000 miles to top end self destruct is a joke in bike terms ! But pretty good for a two stroke ! thrashed to death [They all are .. it's a DT for GawdsSake ! biggrin]

Been underneath the crankcase doesn't make 'em any less reliable ...

If im gonna bash my undercrack on a rock or log .. i would rather it be a starter that gets whacked, rather than the crankcase [bike is fooked if crankcase damaged !]

.. and if your trail riding on ANYTHING without a guard under your crankcase / sump,
you need your fooking head seeing to [yea, i got the yammy guard on mine ! furious]

I rescued a lad on his DT last year, it wouldn't start for $hit on the kicker & he hadn't worked out how to bump stuff yet [17 !] i pushed him up to 8/9 mph & he dumped the clutch in 2nd .. bike started ! A lecky start would have had it away in seconds !

Yea .. my battery will one day die ... but i can bump it in 10 yards !

It's like leccy windows on cars ... they are grief, and just more to go wrong [like a leccy starter ..] but we all have em & wouldn't choose to remove em when new if they were free !

Enjoy your 1940's kickstart technology boys [& 80's styling / HUGE number boards / plastic mesh under your headlights / & Tennis Racket Indicators winkwink] ...

Me .. ?

I'm off to press my button ! biggrin

rofl.gif

Ps .. DeeTee ... Puny 125 ? Incapable of breaking a leg ??
Yes m8, they can .. but you need to get up to speed ... then ...
Drive them into a stationary LANDROVER !! biggrinwinkbiggrinwinkrofl.gif
You Know Who You Are ... ! aww
[Sorry m8 .. that was a bit keen ! biggrin an un-called for !]

We might be down Castleton way on Monday ! Will Go see the road !!

..................................................................................................................................

....

Kick start ... My @rse .... Chunter... chunter .... mutter ..... !

...

MINE'S 'STILL' FASTEST ! wink

Yea .. is possible to have both, i have considered doing this myself hmm despite all $hite i typed above biggrin ...

Someones done it very recently on here & posted all about it, but i can't find it !

He had a bit of bother setting it up, but once done it worked fine !

Unlike Robin's Clavicle disbelief  which as his post up near your crash post shows ...
... is indeed made of Brei wink ....

Ba$tard ... I bet that hurts !

I'm officially now going slow as $hit .. Tis' the season to be 'Crashing !' hmm

AND ...

Despite Bull$hit above {Mine's Still Fastest ! ... line ... } ...

It's now official ..

Mines Now Deffo' SLOWEST  !

as i finally got round to PDI'ing the '59 DT i bought in December ! ... G/box oil - Tyres - Tightened All The Nuts & Bolts - Spokes - Chain - Tax Disc - Took
w@nky 125 graphics off side panels -  Petrol - Gave It a good dust down ! - Whacked WD in bore & fired her up today for first time EVER ! SWEET !

BUT ...

Less than 1/3 throttle for 90 miles .. then slow as fook till 600 miles running in !? bleh

Plus it's standard restricted till 600 miles ! [after that - DEP & Wire To Earth, unleash the beastie !! furious !!]

BORED ? ...

So .. It's official ...

Mine's Still Slowest !! biggrin

Ps ..  .. Can you remember who did the kicker onto an RE recently ??
Someone deffo did, recent ?

I know ... I know ....

But  ..

90 miles at 1/3 throttle ??

That's gonna be slow !

Just needs a numberplate now, then i'm out on it ...

Was thinking of ditching white sidepanels for black X ones ?

It's a weird colour thing this one .. half black . half blue ? WTF ?

Is your 04 RE just blue then?

1/3 is that bad, think i probably did worse than that.......... then again yours is an RE and you dont have a rev counterfuriousfuriousfurious

Erm, it could either look crap or good lol white goes well with the rad scoop graphics, black would go well with the tank... try it and see, anyone you know with a black DTX?

 I Know ...

That's what i thought as well ... !

Sometimes dealers hold back the last few remaining models of a line, in the hope of making megadosh on them in the future [this dealer FAIL ... as he didn't keep it long enough ... You need 10 years or more [20 for full dosh] for the nostalga b0ll0cks to really kick the price up !] ...

Padgetts [Batley .. Ooop north] are famous for this trick ...

I used to run an RD 250 LC which technically was defunct / finished / end of line in 1981 ... But mine was an 'F' plate 1989 Registered !!

I think they had a brand new crated up Yamaha 500 V4 GP bike for sale last year !
I don't mean the RD 500 .. which would be worth 12 / 15k .. but a YZR 500 ...
Worth now ???  30 ? 40 K - 50 K??ashamed

CB ...
[is CB now an acronym for Crasher Ba$tard wink .. Not C Bul' ... ?]

I hate Landrovers too !  I spent more time working on mine than driving the pieca$hite

Try this with black whatsits ...

[6 year old primary skool kids don't do Photoshop ...
But If They Did ....]

May be of some use?

Hello :)

I have a spare DT125 engine sitting in the garage which had the kickstart as standard so i just pulled the bit's out of that and fitted to mine.
The spare engine cost me nothing so it's all good :)

Here's some pics i took:

This pic show's the unused shaft behind the clutch basket which the kickstart cog needs fitted to:

Better look at the kickstart cog:

The blanking cap removed and replaced with the dt125 kickstart oil seal.

Parts needed:
1.Kickstart mechanism
2.kickstart cog (connects the above to the clutch basket)
3.Two circlips which hold no2. on.
4.oil seal
5.kickstart lever.
All above parts can come from the dt125.

Quite an easy job but well worth it biggrin

I wrote this for my dt230 forum but it's done using dt125 parts so will be exactly the same...

[Did you do your own like Dave or was it fitted when you got it ???

DTR Dave ..
Inspired post m8 ..  cheers ...
Will do a conversion on my 04 DTRE with the bits i have in an old 02 / 03 engine !

Gotta be a better bet having both kick & leccy, not just leccy ?

... post a link to your 230 site ???

smile

Much better having both just incase.
My bike doesn't like starting off the motor because the bearings are dry in the starter clutch, which is simple enough to fix (clean and re-grease) but i don't have a flywheel puller that fit's...
So for now i just use kickstart biggrin

There's a link to my forum in my sig mate but it's a dead forum.I only created it as somewhere to store dt230 info.
Feel free to have a browse round though.
