Headlight bulb keeps blowing please help me its expensive :(

hi guys i have now bought a yamaha dtr 125 1998

now to my anger it keeps blowing bulbs i am using HQ h4 bulbs atm

and everytime i ride the bike from idle as the revs get higher it dims more and more and then at around 10 000 rpm it goes pop litterly cracks sometimes other times just the filament goes.

i did have the origianl bulbs in but it went and im unsure weather this was wear and tear as it came with the bike or if it was the same problem.

now i have no clue what it is weather its in the loom or battery is wrong :S

another thing to bear in mind when diagnosing it not sure if its related but when the headlight is on and working if i apply brake or indicators it dims for the brake and flashes with the idicators.

if anyone can solve this you will be saving me so much money ill be so so happy please please help

check the simple things first, when you replace it are u touching the bulb alot? if you are the grease off your fingers goes on it and heats up caucing it to weaken. other than that, follow the wire and check for any damage to the circuit. also is there any water in the housing? mine had some in and my bulb kept blowing.

voltage regulator rectifier :), not sure where these are on the DT but when mine went on my old Speedfight it done the exact same thing, but its always a good idea never touch the bulb with your fingers always use a clean cloth to handle the bulb.

Yeah i'd say that it is the regulater/rectifier. I bought a dtr with all the bulbs blown and the rectifier was toast. Replaced it and none of the bulbs have blown since :D

Ditto the above, check out the reg / rec unit or replace it. Haynes manual is no help on testing so just measure the voltage across your battery terminals, Haynes says 13.3 to 15.3 volts at 3000 rpm
