I think it is the regulator (The electrical block under the seat could be a rectifier)
Would a broken one of these cause the bikes battery to drain ??
I have the problem of my battery draining (battery is new and ive tested it and it holds charge) and as far as i know the battery only goes to this unit (rectifier or regulator) and the ignition barrel (correct me if im wrong)
I had that though first of all but if i run the multimeter across the battery terminals and start the bike up and rev it it gives a reading of up to 15v
It might have blown or whatever rectifiers do when there knackered, but i think a reading of 15V+ on a 12V battery is bad, Have any bulbs blown when you're high revving the bike? I could be wrong or thinking about a diferent part of the electrical circuit. But oh well i dont see many other people answering
EDIT: Just checked the haynes manual and it says under the "Fault Diagnosis" Section that a Battery that is dead or weak could be due to Rectifier Failure

The help is much appreciated cus this problem has been annoying me for a while and no I have never had a bulb blow on me ..... Although i see what you mean about 15v being rather high for a 12v batt
I suppose the best thing to do would be to take the rectifier to a Yamaha place and have them test it
Am i right in thinking that the wires from the battery (red Live) only go to this rectifier and the ignition ? as oppose to when the bike is turned on ??
15 volts sounds about right tbh there is 4 wires going into the rectifier if i remember corect the red one goed to the battery black is erth the white one goes to the coil the red orange one goed to the coil and powers the lights
