Hi guys, bit of a strange one this, I have finally got my bike running but its really bogging down, seems to be running rich, very smokey and I have fuel pouring out out of the clutch lifter arm, and I mean pouring lol.
I've cleaned the carb out and moved the the needle as it was one notch out also noticed when I removed the main jet it had 500 printed on it, if that is the jet size would it even run with such a big jet? would this explain why fuel is pouring out the clutch arm?
Thinking about buying a 240 main jet from the dealer and see if that makes any difference.
thats somthin u dont here about every day lol id get the 240 jet and try that, my carb drips from the draining screw even though its in as tight as it will go
Cheers guys, I'll have ago at the float hight tomorrow and also see if I can get another main jet as the only markings on the jet is 500 and I'm sure that's not right.
Garage stinks of bloody fuel now, things going to be doing 5 gallon to the mile at this rate lol.
Sounds like you have a major problem that I'd normally associate with a leaking fuel tap / float valve combo.
If you have fuel inside your clutch cover then its leaking out of the right hand crank seal meaning that it is knackered, also you must be losing a hell of a lot of fuel for it to do that!!
Yeah I've managed to sort it now, I've not ridden the bike since I've had it and I couldn't work out how I'd used half a tank of fuel just starting it in the garage.
I checked the oil level but couldn't see any oil even though I'd not long changed it, checked in the refill plug and it was full to the brim with fuel!!!
The muppet of a previous owner had only connected the breather from the back of carb near the air intake to the nipple on the gearbox near where the rev cable enters the gearbox
Annoying thing is I've had the carb off several times and just kept replacing the pipes where they came from. So after draining the fuel out the gearbox and refilling with fresh oil AGAIN it started and ran lovely for the first time in the 3 months I've had it.
Took it out on the road for the first time today and done about 70 miles and I loved every minuet of my first ride on my first DT Going to be taking it easy on it for a while though after all the hassle I've had with the poor thing, I just hope I've managed to find all the bodge jobs from the last owner but at the moment I'm a happy chappy.
