I have a 1990 DT125R Im having a bit of a problem, went to MOT and bike failed on "Rear Lower Rear mono-shock pivot excessively worn [2.4.b.4]" now I asked the guy and he said its failed on the rear shock lower bush.
So, as you do I consulted the Haynes manual and say that there is bush there? There is "header inserts - 2 off"?
Anyway I tried to get it off and it wont so I ask my step father who is an engineer and he tired, but nothing worked.
So what I need to know is what size is the "pivot bolt" my step dad can make them at his work, just need to know size?

Damn I know this but cant rememeber now, and it's on my bike so cant take it off to measure. Yamaha parts will know the size as it shows up on thier microfish lol
Also that bush comes set in the shock so dont try to remove it , any more lol

cheers pal, well if there is movement in the mono shock at the bottom, what do i do?
If your dad or whoever is an engineer, then why can't he measure the internal bore of the sleeves and then make a bolt with a shaft diameter to suite that size or even better re-bore out the sleeve and put another one inside of it

yeah that was the first idea but we could not get the mono shock off at all to do it, the bottom shock linkage wont come off the frame or shock
Ah right, I thought you meant you can't get the bushes off. So your saying the bolt cannot come out, can it be rotated or is it completly seized in?
the bolt is stuck in, but it rotates, i think its seized to the two headed inserts thats stopping it from coming out,
what the thought on drilling it out, so the bolt is weak then i can crush the bolt and the monoshock will fall out? then replace with new better fitting bolt?
In my opinion I wouldn't drill it out. when I had a senda something similar happened but at the swinging arm and it would spin but not move, it eventually came out just by knocking it through. Just keep it soaked in wd40 of similar releasing agent and use a massive hammer
cheers people, i thought **** it and started drilling with a "borrowed" £200 carbine drill bit, and it worked! now i got it all out i noticed that yam have used a ball washer in the bottom of the mono shock, and i cant think why, all it does is go up or down not sideways so why a ball washer?
anyway we are going to make a solid bar with bushes for it instead.
i had to cut mine off, the ball joint only comes with the shock you can't buy it off yamaha, i got a bush for some random panhard rod and a bolt i cut to size, only cost a few quid and works just as well, its what bikes used to use so i see no problem in it, theres a thread on here already i started about it, the only reason i could think of for needing the sideways play is that yamaha didn't think they would be able to make parts that properly line up lol cus the swingarm will hold it in place anyway! though with a bush you still get articulation of the joint, the rose joint they origionally put in is in my opinion a stupid idea! or my other theory is they also made the bearing a odd size so you can't get it anywhere (i've tryed) so you have to buy a new shock when it fails (and thats guranteed)

Not gonna lie, i asked about colour choice, "as it comes mate", it came pink, bright ****ing pink. But anyway, not a bad price at all! My mate with a kmx125 had the same situation, £250 for one!
