the normal fings really m8 wheel bearings'steering bearings'swingarm bearings make sure everythink works check engine and frame numbers against the log book erm and just have a good look at it make sure nothink looks DODGY ect.....
check the Power vavle is working. If you turn the key to the on position it will do a quick cleaning cycle. Stick your ear on the left side of the bike next to the cylinder, and flick the key on, youll hear it.
Fork seals, grab the front brake and push down. There should not be any oil residue on the forks when they return to their normal position.
Visual check, look for rusty exhaust especially if you know it's been kept outside. Check the front at the bend for any holes, also the end can is partly hiddin by the rear side panel, stick you head underneath and have a look. When i first went to have a look at mine i missed a bludy big hole in it. Wouldn't have made a difference tho as i was going to replace the whole exhaust on it anyway, but something to bear in mind if you have no such plans.
Chain, is it rusty or slack or both. A sign that the bike might not have been maintained by it's owner.
Push the bike forward a few yards, should go freely and not resist.

Thanks for all the replies!! Went and got a bike today actually, its perfect! throttle sticks a bit, needs sorting out along with horn and more gearbox oil!
Nah it is first on the list!! its not properly stuck but upto my YZ it retracts really slow. ill take a closer look on the weekend. Hopefully nothing more that poor fitting or a spring or cable!
Throttle sticks a bit...lol. I would prioritise that above the horn loool. My dad once had full throttle stick on a 550cc two stroke single, bike wheelied into back of parked car....three weeks of intensive care later lol
what bike was it XD sounds like a fun bike befor it tryed to kill him and couldent he of just pulled the cluch in
