ok i have 2 dtr 125s a 92 j reg and an offroad 2003.

im needing help on the offroad cdi it is is a 3rm-20 which i am trying to wire up to my offroad bike.

now i dont have a full loom for this bike as its only an offroader.

my first thought was it should work with just using the basic wires like the offroad loom.

ie  white/blue  white/red green/white black/red black earthed to coil bolt and and orange to coil.

but im getting no spark at all.

am i missing something?

the other wires coming from this cdi is

red/blue

red/white (think this is power valve wire)

^^^^^^ on the same connector block as the basics^^^^^

then the other block

white/black

blue/yellow

brown

black/brown

yellow/blue

black/red

can anyone help me out please as im giving up hope

I'll pm u the rest of the details as I'll be basically telling the world how to hotwire a dt. Do u have pics of ur 2 bikes together??

Ok well on mine I'm using most of the loom but jus not many components attached to it lol I'm runnin stop n tail light , headlight , horn and killswitch ,no ign barrel, jus to scrape it thru mot , ur gonna need to do somthing with the cdi wiring coz some of the wires go to the ign barrel ur gonna need to join some wires up , also ur gonna need a kill switch, I'll study the wiring diagram wen I get a chance l8r on, tbh I hate wiring diagrams I find it alot easier if I'm there looking the the wires n stuff lol I'll try my best m8 lol

yea use photo bucket m8 thts what most of us on here use , once uploaded to p,b u jus click on the IMG code jus below the pic u want to post then copy it into the typing area u can do multiple pics in one post , jus hit enter after each time u Copy the code so the nxt pic is below the last one not next to it lol

thanks bradders you are a star.

i do have a tatty loom in a bag at the back of my shed but unsure if its compatible with this cdi unit. i will dig it out later and have a good look.

only thing is if it is compatible i have nothing else only a kill switch. no ignition or stand switch/or anything else that would possibly prevent the cdi from signaling a spark without them.

Hopefully u won't need tht permanently u jus gotta find out what wires from the cdi to join up tht would of been switched by the ign barrel , have u tryed bypassing the cdi altogether? Try earthing one of the wires from the stator/pickup for spark ,and the other one to wer the orange wire from the cdi goes to the coil , so from the pickup one wire earthed and one on the spade connector on the coil , or try connecting one of the wires to the coil . And leave the other one off out the way and vice versa try all possible combinations using just the coil and stator

no mate not tried without the cdi. plan was to use this cdi so i could eventually rig up a battery and the power valve servo motor.

i dug the tatty loom out earlier and its a definite match, traced every wire that is on there as its just got bits of tape here and there holding it all together.

took me 4 hours to just trace it all and check all the connections which is all there and tag them up so i know where everything goes.

not had time to hook it all upto the bike yet to see if it produces a spark as ive only just finished and my eyes hurt bad. lol.

now i have put a spare set of clocks/regulator/cdi/ on the loom and rigged a battery up. i have connected the 2 kill switch wires together and sidestand switch wires together. connected the relevant ignitition barrel wires together and i am getting power in all the right places round the loom.

so hopefully when i check tomorrow i should be getting a spark. my next question is can you tell me what you are running on your loom to make it as basic as possible ie i dont want to run the clocks/lights.

i dont have a neutral relay or reed switch. would this affect any running problems?

thanks for your help mate its very much appreciated

u dont want to join up the wires on the kill switch coz thats earthing out the spark, and also iv done the same on the ign wires joined up the relevant wires as if the ign was constantly switched on, but with that everything is live all the time and now has killed my battery, im not worried bout that yet as its not on the road yet and i dont have the pv servo, but im gonna wire in a main switch on the main earth terminal off the battery to kill every thing to save my battery, im not running the clocks but i will be running a aftermarket speeo so im jus gonna use a random live feed to power that, iv also joined the side stand switch , iv left the neutral light as it is, that has no effect as the stand switch is sorted, the headlight wiring i will be using so ive kept that,

so iv pretty much got everything but the sidestand switch, clocks, ign barrel, indicators, reedswitch, think thats all

do you have a neutral relay on your loom its a 4 pin connector block with the following colour wires black. brown. blue/white and sky blue.

on my loom its located on the back end maybe under the seat area???

the reason i connected the killswitch wires together as in the wiring diagram it has a picture that says run and off and on the run they are connected so my thought was it should be connected together?

also regards to the reed switch would the bike run with this unplugged?

what cdi unit are you running bradders? same as me the 3rm-20??

iv never heard of a neutral relay lol mine is a 89" btw ,iv got a brand new loom and the only relay in there was for the indicators, as for the kill switch thing tht could be the case on your bike but before i connected the kill switch up both wires wer apart on the loom so it was open circuit, wen i connected them the engine was cut , thts why i thought it was the other way round??

my cdi has - 3nc 01 on it?
