Drain coolant , keep it in a clean container if u wanna re-use it , disconnect coolant pipes and temp sensor wire from head , remove 5x 10mm nuts (or 12mm? It's been a while) lift off head remove gasket , replace with new gasket (make sure the word "up" stamped into it is the right way up) then the previous in reverse order , make sure u tighten head bolts to correct torque setting , I think thers a special procedure like, tighten head bolts evenly, once torqued up bring engine up to running temp , allow to cool down completely then check the tightening torque again , job done

download the manual anyway to double check to make sure u do it correctly , the link can be found in the "useful links" section I think

Did you buy a new genuyine yammy head gasket to fit as the pattern ones are crap (the silver one in the gasket set was an old pattern one i kept for emergancys, genuine yammy are black). Also if it overheated theres a very good chance its warped the head. Theres a place called PJME in wolverhampton who skims them for £15.

Was u getting any drips from around the stand area? If you was its defo the head gasket gone.

Id say you need a head skim and genuine yammy head gasket and youll be spot on again

How hot and how quick is it getting hot?

Even if the head gasket has gone, aslong as the water pump is working and its full off coolant it shouldnt overheat id have thought. If the head gasket has gone or head warped the coolant system will be getting pressurized from the leak and pump the coolant out the overflow down by the stand.

What happened when it went on me ages ago was i didnt realise the head gasket had gone so it was pumpin coolant out the overflow so then it overheated coz there wasnt enough coolant and by the time i got it home it had warped the head so when i fitted a new gasket it pissed out a week later untill i realised the head was warped so i had the head skimmed and then it was fine.

i recon its more serious than that tbh, i think iv cracked the barell, so exhaust gasses are excaping into the coolent system.

If u are having exhaust gasses leak into the cooling system u will prob lose the lid off the coolant reserve bottle at the back , mine did it , head g went lid popped off ,(never found as it happened on the road) then it started pumping all the coolant out of the overflow tube on the bottle , but it sounds like my previous post tbh

To check the thermostat, take it out and put it in a jug of boiling water out of the kettle and see if it opens.

Just get your genuine yammy head skimmed. Stay away from pattern stuff imo.

I changed my head gasket about 4 weeks ago...but I have oil in my coolant once again. :( could it be the water/oil pump seal? Or a warped head??
