Sump plug snapped off
Permalink

Right so i got my dt out this morning and left it running to warm her up, and i noticed some black/goldy oil on the ground so i checked around the bike i noticed that it had leaked from the sump plug so i go to tighten it up with 1 turn with a spanner and it just makes a "click" noise then i pull the sump plug back out and half the thread has snapped of inside the engine! no

So im going to have to take the right hand side engine cover off to get as close to the broken thread as possible and see if i can get it out with some mall-grips but i have a funny feeling it is flush s i carnt get it out!

Has anyone got any advice for me please i realy need help asap....thanks

I did the same last week. I drilled half way through the snapped bolt, Started small n went up in drill bits till about 3.2 mm and banged a 4 mm allen key in the hole. Came out easy. Ive ordered my new bolt from aj sutton. £2.17. Coz of all these bank hols im still waiting for mine. Hope this helps

I hammered a flat head screwdriver into mine and just unscrewed it, the metal is quite soft compared to other normal bolts

if all else fails tap the clutch case to m10 use a 20mm long m10 bolt and copper washer

However! The sump plug also fastens the case! This means without it you will still leak oil.

Not Necessarily Callum, mines snapped, re tapped the case to fit a smaller bolt and it's sound, don't leak at all. Just worried about damaging this 1 now cos then I am fooked lol

Remember Steve, you can drain the oil from the engine by undoing and taking out the Neutral switch if needs be mate, if you dont want to tamper with the bolt you've used.

providing its not seized and that youve just snapped it off purely from overtightening it then chances are an 'easyout' will remove it pretty effortlessly.
