hi there i got a 97 dt 125 and it is over heatingi would like some help please
i have changed head gasket to genuine one i put new pistong and ring in it bout week ago flushed out all hoses and the radiator put new 2 stroke and engine oil in it
i checked wether water pump work and it seems to all work fine
the temp gauge goes up to the red in a matter of seconds of riding it
if the water is bubbling out the tank at the back its the head gasket so if you have changed it you head might be worped mine was bubbling out the back when i got mine i changed head gasket and its fine now =/
nah i mean when it is hot it boils over in radiator but how hot would it get if it goes to the red cause wen it gets to that point i can stil put my finger in the water with out it burning
but would u say my temp gauge is faulty or dose it not get to hot eny way wen its in the red i thought it was gunna burn me but it didnt lol. wat sort of temp would it expand into the expansion bottle at the back
i think the min it starts boiling/bubiling it will go into the expansion bottle im not sure about the temp gage as mine doest work lol but im pritty sure it will be air makeing it buble i would dubble check the head by takeing it off and checking the gasket has no streeks init and is defo not leaking
right just started let it warm up and went for ride wen i came back took the radiator cap of it was just expanding into the expansion at the back its not bubling its just expanding sorry but got it wrong bout it bubbling
yh i did lol i probs get new gasket eny way i have bought two head gaskets recentl coz some one told me the head gasket i put first one on still over heated then i put new piston init and put the second gasket on and still saying its over heating lol
I would take the water pump cover off and see if u can turn the impeller by hand if u can thts fooked the plastic drive gear on the other end of the impeller shaft , give that a check if that is the case then ur gonna over heat as coolant isn't getting pumped round .
lol mine seems to just be over heating even tho every things working lol ive spent quit a bit now on parts and i always use yammy gasket lol i dunno why im still trying fix it now would of thought i would of gave up but i love 2 strokes lol
ok when you take the head off to replace gasket get a steel ruler or a level and put it across the top of barrel.....then take a feeler gauge and see if it fits under any part of ruler/level ....do this all across the top of barrel in different places...if you can get the feeler gauge under the ruler/level then this meens your barrel is warped from overheating and it needs lapping flat
when bike is cold open rad cap ..then start the bike and look in the rad and you should see the coolant flowing into the rad just under the filler neck
this way you know for sure the coolant is moving around the system if not check all pipes for blockages and flush the system with a hose
make sure to bleed the system when everything is all full up again
above the head is two pipes that go to carb..they have 8mm bolts holding them to the head
when bike is on stand one is higher than the other (the 1 with the thermstat housing)
get a 8mm socket and extension bar......open rad cap....then undo the highest 8mm bolt ..wait until just coolant is coming out and no air bubbles then tighten it back up
replace rad cap ...done
this can cause probs coz the temp sensor is outta the coolant and reads wrong

sorry forgot to mention you will only see the coolant entering the rad if you have no thermostat in when you do it ..but you can put it back in afterwards just dont rip the gasket ..its a good way to check the flow of coolant but can end up costing you a thermostat gasket ...but atleast youl know
while you have thermo out chuck it in a cup of boiling water to see if it opens
