hi,

just bought a 2000 'w' dtr125 after having one years back. really dissapointed the way it performs, thought it must be restricted exhaust so bought a full big one but no difference. Checked powervalves and they seem to line up and work fine, have pulled out and taped up restrictor in speedo, cut the inlet rubber out, taken the air filter, has good compression, still only does 60mph on flat and 65 downhill revving to 7500 to 8000rpm.

What am i missing or what else should i try, the one i had years ago was an early model and that used to do over 80.

Thanks

i took the bottom off the carb and had a look when i cut the inlet rubber, all looked clean, could see through main jet.

the bike itself starts and runs fine, its just slow and i dont think it revs high enough. ive been told it will be powervalve but it all seems to work and the holes line up at higher revs, my previous bike didnt have working powervalve it was just turned and held in fixed position.

it just feels quicker on a pegged system m8 more of an initail kick than using a servos system , and an the old cdi was better too. think it was pre 93 or maybe 96, somebody will know ..

peg ya pv m8 see if that does it for ya

have you set the powervalve by looking up the exhaust port to line it up

or have you just looked at the actuator thing on the end of valve to line it up

sometimes the valve is 180 degrees out from the actuator and you have to remove the actuator.... look up exhaust port .... line it up ...then put actuator back onto the valve end

good luck and let us know smile

I know what your saying about feeling more of a kick when the power comes in if you lock valve open but im still looking for about another 20mph on top end as 60-65 isnt great.

I have only looked at the power valve on the side of the barrel, should have checked up the exhaust port when i swapped exhausts over, didnt realise they can be 180 degrees out. I'll have a look and let you know.

As already said, look up exhaust port, or if you're lazy like me just stick your fingers inside and line it up, that way, you can also make sure it is flush to the port aswell..
Just be sure to not invite and mates around who are d!cks because one false move with the kicker could prove to be fatal!

Many thanks for all of your suggestions, GINCAT you were right about powervalve being upside down, is this part of the restriction or the last guy put it in wrong?

Anyway just been out and it revs to over 10000 and feels like a totally different bike and im well happy. Not done a top speed run yet but am hoping for 80 if the sprockets are standard.

Many thanks to all who replied, cant wait to get back out on it!biggrin
