When changing down through the gears on my 2001 dt125r the gearchange feels notchy not a smooth gear change,but feels smoother changing up through the gears,bike has only done 4k miles,clutch is adjusted correctly,has anyone else experienced this or maybe all dt's are like this.

Here's a good suggestion chap, change you're gear oil, you'd be surprised the difference it'll make :)

recently serviced with 10/40 oil shall i change it for a lighter gear oil ?

Fook that's probably why!! You don't want engine oil, try proper transmission fluid, motul light gear oil is good stuff, slippery!
