So riding about today and all is well, after a couple hours I notice the bike had no power moving off in 1st gear. Then 2 mins later is just splutters out like it's out of fuel. Pull over, check fuel level and it's half tank.
switch to reserve anyway and bike starts fine and whooshes off. Get home, too it off reserve and went back out to test it. Rides fine for another 10 mins then the same thing again, splutters out like its out of fuel. rev the throttle and it just sounds like theres no power ( like when you run outy of fuel). Switched it to reserve again, revved it a few times and it whooshed off again.
wtf theres no leak but somehow fuel just suddenly gets starved... any ideas?
I used to have exactly the same issue on my Cagiva Mito, when I was running a 35mm carb on it, she used to fuel lock, especially if I spanked it. First port of call, clean out all of your fuel filters, I don't know if there is one in the fuel tap? I presume so, best place to start. the other thing it may possibly be is a sticky float, or a leaking float... if that's got even the tiniest leak, it knocks the float balance right out and weighs it down

Ahh nice one mate will give those a go. Not looking forwrad to getting that bloody carb off but ah well. Was having a nice freakin ride too :(
Think my fuel tap is on it's last legs anyway, might need a seal too. Still running it in but I think I need to change jets again from 240, feels boggy whenever you ease off the gas if that makes any sense
+1 on the tap tubes they get blocked up real easy (the bit in the tank)
but before you remove the tap...drain the fuel into something and undo the two small screws on the tap and remove the lever..inside is a round rubber seal with three holes in it..
sometimes this can split and fold up inside the tap and can cause this sort of problem coz it partialy blocks the outlet... its worth a check first as it can all just be put back together

My guess is the fuel tap is playing up, the longest straw on the tap is probably clogged I can't see any other reason why it would only work on 'reserve' and not on 'on' You might aswell check it before the carb as you're gonna have to take the tank off to get to the carb anyhow
argghh its still effin doing it. When it gets really hot it just shuts off like its out of gas, put it on res and it goes after 20 kicks. Go station fill it up it only took £3 so I know it wasnt near reserve time. Back to on and it rides fine for another 5 miles then does it again. Changed the fuel tap so I know its not that now
Have you tried running the bike on normal till it cuts out...then instead of switching to reserve, just leaving the bike off to cool then starting it again still on normal fuel supply...? If that makes sense
Meet up with me and toy, bring a 10mm spanner and do a tank swap...then go for a ride....?
Or if you both live local (with the sounds of it you do) just do swaps on each others bikes for things that could be causing the problem.. Tank, Coil, etc And then once you've swapped them over both of you go for a test ride and see if Syphilis gets the problems that Seiki has reported.. If/when he does get the problems, you've eliminated what the cause is and you know which part to buy And of course post on here for the part you require as ebay is absolutely garbage for bargains lately!
Not tried the normal thing yet mate I always just assumed it was the fuel . Went Yammy today and it was suggested it might be my cap, not letting in enough air or too much cant remember. If you guys are up for meeting up im gain. It only happens when the bike is hot and has burnt lots of fuel so that again tells me its deffo a starvation problem somehow.
That's why I suggested the normal thing...cos it may have nothin to do with temp, it's just down to running time, the bike getting hot is just a by-product of that. If you get me...
well yea lol...erm how about run it normal on your bike till it cuts out then change the tank onto toys cold bike asafp...see if it starts. On a side note...99% sure it wont fit onto my dtx...
As daft as it sounds.. It could be the fuel cap vent that is clogged with dirt Thus causing a vacuum inside the tank and not letting the air replace where the petrol once was My bike is notorious for that happening.. Especially in the summer when petty tanks get smoking hot!
Next time you go for a ride as soon as it does it pull up and take off your cap, if it feels like a small vacuum is there then that is your problem..
To fix it either dismantle and try and clean it up or swap it for a known working one..
