2006 dtx gearbox/2nd gear problem.

I have bought a 2006 DTX as a project bike that is a bit of a lemon and knowing it had a funny noise in 2nd gear i had a do at diagnosing what the problem was today.

1st gear is fine as is 3,4,5,6,th gears but when put in 2nd gear it sounds like the noise you get when the sprocket teeth are curled and grabbing the chain.I have bought a new chain and front sprocket and fitted them today but it is still the same.

It is rideable as long as i get out of second quick but the bike is being stripped and rebuilt anyway so im adding this to my never ending jobs.

Has anybody come across or heard of this,im thinking new engine problem sorted or could it be a fairly easy strip down replace part and rebuild??

Any help appreciated.cheers

It would be worth checking the oil for any metal filings, you are likely to find some by the sound of things! the 2nd gear might be missing a tooth or something? Could even be a bit chewed.... get the engine open and have a gander I say
