Safe to take snorkel off airbox?

Just wondering if it is safe to take it off, i dont go off-roading i only do road riding and my dt has been up-jetted 4 size's above the original jet!

But it was up-jetted with the snorkel on so would it be safe to take it off?confuse

The reason i want to take it off is because i took it off today and just started it and it sound so deep like a 250 2 smoker haha so realy want to take it back off but im scared of damaging my dt's engine blankstare

Here is a pic of the snorkel:

Thanks for the reply dude but i don't fancy cutting anything tbh......i took if off again took it around block and it sound's just like my mate's old kx125 did! biggrinbiggrin

Do you think it would be okay to leave it off as i got it up-jetted 4 jet's higher than original and don't fancy paying out again to up-jet again :/

The hole is not that big but make it sounds so much better and imo better in performance it seems to pick up better which is why im scared of damaging the engine as i haven't re-jetted it!

Would you leave the snorkel on or off as i don't want to pay to re-jet again no

Dont have a clue mate i took it to local bike shop and they fitted my DEP & up-jetted to suit for me and it is a cheap shop tbh it was only around £40 which i thought wasnt bad.

But the guy said in the end he went 4 jet's above the standard onesmile

As far as my personal knowledge goes, as long as you have compensated for the extra air with a larger jet, and done a plug chop (start the bike, leave it to run, give it a boot full of revs then turn the bike off after, whip out the plug and check the colour) to see that you aren't running lean, you should be fine :).

Also to my knowledge, the DT it quite heavily restricted in the airflow department, hence why people have been able to cut the whole top off the airbox, and go up a couple of jet sizes for good results.

When I originally upjetted the carb, I found the bike to be running rich, and very boggy, struggled really bad to get past 6000rpm, whipped the snorkel off, job done! It stopped bogging straight away!

its probaly a false reading if you didnt clean it before you did it, was it clean?

also you wanna ride up a long steep hill in the highest gear possible, full throttle for 2 mins at least  then stop take the plug out then check, that way you will get the most acurate reading
