On the way out yesterday an all of a sudden temp gauge flew up so i stopped an looked it over water pizzin out everywhere under the front left nut.
so i thought id had come lose an pulled out the trusty tool kit on the road side tried tightening the nut an the dome bit pops of the top ..
its pulled the stud straight through the top an out of the cylinder so now i cant tighten it up..
pushin this now even heavier bike with the big tyres on it up the road cursing when 2 dodgy youths stop on a 125 honda ,, good lad nipped home an got me a 2l bottle of water.. good lads
which got me home but now im stuffed stuck ere iv tried chemical metal today but it still aint holdin
do i need a new barrel an piston or is there a cheaper fix
iv got a tap an die set but making the hole bigger will cause issues when i change gaskets an id have to drill the head for the bigger hole to ( without a drill ) lol
Its a pretty straightforward repair called a helicoil or cross wire insert. a kit which includes the drill, tap, insert tool and insert is about £15. You will have to take the head and barrel off, drill out the thread, tap the hole and fit the insert with the tool provided. Alternatively, many general engineering firms can do this for you if you prefer. If you live near Yeovil I have got all the tools here and can do it for you foc. When you refit the head use a genuine head gasket!! Hope this helps.
