frame and engine mounts worn - anyone else had this problem?

everything was still done up tight yet the engine had developed side to side play which  then wore and caused up and down play, caused a horrible vibration in the powerband but the problem wasn't evident untill i took the head steady off, wondered if anyone else had had this and what solution they came to, i'm getting a oversize bolt fitted to the front mount and bushs made for the swingarm with a new swingarm spindle. its the only way i can think of other than replacing both the frame and engine. its a odd one though as i've never encountered this problem on a bike before!!!

Sounds like the swing arm bushes mate, if you grab the back wheel and shake side to side is there also play in the swingarm? i dont think theres any bushes anywhere else to do with the engine just the swing arm. are all the mounting bolts tight? are they all the right ones?

Hope its a easy fix let us know how you get on

the swing arm bushs are still fine and was held firmly in place as were the other mounting bolts which are the correct size yamaha parts and still properly torqued up, i didn't word the last message very well reading it again i meant getting bushs made for where the swingarm spindle goes through the engine, the engine had worn the holes in its cases between the swinging arm!!and the same with the front frame mount untill there was about 3mm difference between the width of the frame and the engine. thats why i'm soo baffled!

the bushs i'm getting made up for the engine are being custom made to take up any tollerance because other wise i have a scrap frame and crank cases, can't afford to have the bike off the road for long peroids as its my only transport so going the belt and braces route as concened it could develop again if i were to replace the frame and cases with standard parts, just strange as i've probs done a few hundred thousand miles on different bikes over the years and never had a problem like this with engine mounts (though broke pretty much every other part imaginable lol). the down side is getting engineers to do stuff round this way takes ages, if only i had space for a lathe...

defo on my engineers case keep popping in to try and hurry him up as he said he'd have it done a week ago! i'll chuck on some pics of the work the engineer does. whats got me wondering is if yamaha used some sloppy tollerances to allow play like this to develop in the first place, i have some spare cases so when i get the frame and motor back i'll measure everything to death

My '95 dtr had the exact same problem! Along with many other issues which I couldnt afford to sort at the time so my solution was trading it for another bike!

that option had become tempting! got it sorted now fitted better than standard but cost me the best part of £150 :'( basically got bushs that sleeve into the case for the rear mount and the front mount oversized, hopefully should stop that ever happening again!

still in the rebuild process as i'm going a bit ott puting it back together, but it will do as there is more play in a new dtr than mine has now, sorry to here about your new yz thats a pain needing to strip it before you've even had proper use out of it!
