Temperature Gauge reading

This is going to be a strange question.

The bike's not been running well. After a lot of faffing it now feels more sorted, but only when it's been running for a few miles.

I've always noticed that the gauge bearly shifts beyond about 1/8 up the scale, even after 1/2 hour. Never seen it above 1/4, and when it got there, the bike went like a train.

I wondered if the poor running and the low temp reading were related, but I dont know what's a typical temp gauge needle position.

I appreciate they'll probably all vary, but mine seems low.

i'd like to get some views before starting changing thermostats

Thanks
