Looks like yours is a 1990 model mate, the 3MD ran for 1990, 1991, and 1992, although the 90 did start start with 008 and not 002 like you say yours does.

Being off road chances are the frame and engine MIGHT have different numbers. If it's a 90 onwards and not a 88-89 then all parts from 90-93 will fit. Gadget asked an important question, best way to ever find out the exact year on an early DT is but how many springs are on the kickstant.
hi all recentley just bought another dtr 125 at a bargain price off a mate off roader also wanting to know age of this bike too i have a bit of info off both bikes here it goes
couldnt find no numbers on this standard exhaust to rusted but it has a valve of some sort not far from the exhaust port before the big expansion chamber part on front piece exhaust dont know if this is standard for all dtr's
this dtr has one spring on the stand well it has no stand but it only has one thing that the spring hooks over off the stand so assuming one spring
has a steering lock on frame ..
has the standard backbox with matching numbers i think
DTR 125 [2]
FRAME NO:ZJ-320337-AT ENGINE NO:UNKNOWN they have been ground off BARREL NO:3MB 00 124CC HEAD NO: YAMAHA 3BN this has a stand on with 1 spring ..
has steering lock on frame
not sure where cdi is havnt took nohing off the bike yet
this has a front dep with a little dent in it been sprayed matt black so no original exhaust numbers :(
the back box on this says dt125/dt175
thats the best i can do on info on both bikes for now until i get space to take some parts off them
Read up mate there's a good un, someone spends 10-15 mins searching for, and then finding your bike frame code, decent thing is to at least acknowledge it eh? As for the 2nd frame I can't find that model code anywhere, the highest letter coding I can find starts with a 'Y' Are you sure it's a Yamaha frame, as the way the coding is stamped doesn't ring true for a Yamaha. I've seen 9 digit coding, 12 digit coding and the newer 17 digit, but not 10.
Plus a pic or two wouldn't go amiss neither, might help identify bike.

sorry mate but im not really clue'd up on dtr's at all new bikes 2 me mate just taking it in bit by bit
i couldnt see any greese points on any of the 2 dtr swing arms and yes im sure the second one is a dtr frame its the same frame as the 1st dtr so unless on 2 seprate occasions and 2 different towns with 100 miles between them i get sold 2 dtr's with the same frame but there not dtr frames
They are definetley DTR Frames mate 100%
im sorry if im not taking it in but Dtr's are new to me and we have to learn somewhere .. in the past iv owned honda's & husqvarna's & few others but theese are my first 2 dtr's
Well the first frame seems sorted it corresponds with the coding for a 1990 dtr, but as for the second, you'll be best trying to answer some of the questions the lads have previously asked or like I say, post a couple of pics up.
NEV the guy who posted said it is 1990 `1991 1992 if it was *3MD-008175* BUT IT ISNT ITS *3MD-002175*
and i do apreachiate his help and yours & who ever else is helping but what you got to think is mate you have owned a dt alot longer than me so ACKNOWLEDGE THAT IM NEW HERE thanks .. ash
Not havin ago mate but its the way you said acknowledge it eh[[ IM TRYING....]]
K no probs, according to the parts suppliers reference, the coding for a 1990 3MD starts at 008101 and goes to up to 3MD 018000, thats when it becomes a 1991 model at 3MD 018101, 1992 starts at 3MD 027101 Because you say yours is 3MD 002175 you can definately say that it isn't a 91 model, and neither is it a 92 model because the serial number is much greater in 91 and 92 model. So yes you say yours starts with 002 which is lower than 008, but like I said earlier I'd be inclined to think it's a 1990dtr, but a 3MD 1990 dtr, not a 3MB 1990 dtr, and not a 3MA 1990 dtr. A 1989 dtr will have the first 3 characters totally different, so it's not an 1989 dtr. How does that come over?
im deffo reading the frame numbers correct too even says on a whie sticker lol on front of frame just weird nev no point us arguin it out lol lets work it out lads :) will have a look at link now m8
Lol I'm not arguing, I'm here trying to help you, in trying to point out what it isn't, I'm trying to show what it is. No other models/year uses the 3MD prefix.
My bike is a 1992 registered model, built in 91,has the same prefix as yours 3MD but serial starts 0192
Yours definately isn't a 92, or a 91, or an 89, so that leaves....... 1990.
Ya wi' me?
