dt 125 r 2003 - lack of mid range power, awesome top range though!

Hi Chaps, having decided to get back into motorbikes after 20 years I got hold of a dt 125r.

She has had a rebore and has about 80 miles under her belt since.

The bike is quick through the gears and pulls well upto 5000 rpm but then sort of feels groggy throttle wise.

She will pull me up most hills in 6th gear so it has the capability to do better in the mid range.

I have a big bore type exhaust and have removed the reed switch in the speedo but I have not checked out the air filter or removed the snorkle as yet due to the fecking weather in wales atmdisbelief.

I think prehaps she is getting starved of air at the mid range, the plug looks on the rich side and this helps me get to this result.

The power valve is working alright as when she gets 7 - 8 k (and I have only tried this twice as she needs running in) the power band is well frightning it goes mental and make a real deep sound and goes balistic!

I have never had a 125 with such screaming top end power, which is all good but I would like to balance up the mid range power if possible.

When I do my mod1 and have to to the avoidence test in second gear and throttle back she is gonna be a bitch to control, she just wants to go nose upfurious

Cheers chaps and thanks for your time.

if u want to tame the power just for ur test id start the engine and leave it idleing and then un plug the pv servo from the loom that will leave the pv in the closed position giving u no top end power watsoever but bottom to mid will be pretty much the same

Dont worry too much about passing your mod1 on a DT, I managed it first time, just get some practice in a car park and you'll be fine, most difficult part I found was not locking up the rear wheel under heavy braking for the emergency stop.

Through personal experience I'd advise against removing the airbox snorkel, but each bike is different and even height above sea level will alter the air/fuel mix and can make the bike run badly.

I did my mod 1 on my DT and did the corner and avoidance in 3rd to make it easier for myself, did lock the rear wheel on the stop but he said I controlled it well so it only went down as a minor! :D
