Ok so bike sat over winter went to fire her up and no cervo sound or life..did the main things erm batterys old so baught new one charged it still no life !!
would u say this is common for over wintering(i know i should have taken battery off now).
i have inspected the fuse from the battery wire wich fell apart in my hand but did seem to be intact ie the wire inside the glass.
What type of fuse do i need to replace it ?
also if that fails what else could it possibly be?
i have aquired a voltage meter anyone know what setting that should be on?
Any pointers would be realy appreciated
im to lazy to bump it but i dont mind kicking it..something so pleasing to kick over a bike :)
So there is no power going to the bike at all? In that case you need to trace the wires from the battery and do a Continuity test to make sure the wires are in tact. Check any and all components along the way.
Check to see if there is a spark at the plug.
To do that you need to take the plug cap off. Take the plug out Reinsert the cap Earth the plug- I.e. touch it to the engine And kick the bike over You should notice a consistant spark.
If your bike has been left outside in the winter you may have cracked the VPYS causing a fault to earth and therefore no power.
Try pinning the port and disconnecting the PV.
You may have a cracked wire in your ciruit which is causing a fault to earth. Inspect all wires that have been exposed to any elements.
OK so ive been ratching about and after putting a little tin foil over the fuse..(just to do some tests) i found a bit of noise coming from the neutral relay assembly. ..ive cleaned it with contact cleaner and sand paper ect and when i use the horn (for instance) it don't work. The relay clicks crackles ect and neutral light flashes inline with the noise so im thinking that's kinda knack ed..so gonna have to get one of those anyways? on looking for the fuse replacement i came across some stuff and was wondering can i put the new blade fuses in with holder in place of the old connectors and glass fuse ? as long as its same rating?
Ok so she's running but i have a few problems. 1 no servo action from the ypvs on ignition turning 2 the neutral relay cracks and pops all the time and 2 when i hit the horn it makes the relay carckle or pop more..until i increase the revs then the horn will begin to sound 3 on idling the horn acts as the kill switch after crackling from the neutral relay
New multimeter on its way as is the blade fuse conversion kit
then hopefully i will be able to get round this little problem new neutral relay in 7/10 days £36.09 with delivery but its genuine part so im not fussed
While you're waiting for your neutral relay to come Zed, take the battery off and give it a full charge, once charged with the ignition on, but engine not started, you should have a horn, the servo should go through the cleaning process, the brake lights should come on, and so should the indicators. Then take it from there, if you find that when you've put the neutral relay back on it should be o.k but keep an eye on your battery, using the multimeter see what voltage its putting out, because if the battery isn't keeping its charge, can be one of two things, a dodgy coil at the stator,or a buggered battery as well as the relay.
cheers Nev i stuck a spanking new battery on just 2 days ago i charged it for 3 hours and the voltage was great she started 3 rd kick after the new battery ive been ill so havent started it for months thanks for the post that's more things to look at
ok so got new relay and well wasn't that but hey got a new one :s anyways under the tank behind my rad there is a 4 wire connector consisting off white. black. light blue. and ether yellow wid red. stripe or orange wid red stripe. cant make my mind up lol.. seems to lead into left hand case. anyways when i disconnect this the ypvs servo jumps into life and the self clean mode while ignition is on if i reconnect the 4 wire connector the servo wont work ive cleaned nearly every connector i can find and was about to take side casing off and nuked my screw driver so gonna invest in an impact driver..cant figure why i aint got one yet lol anyways just thought i would update
Bit of an unknown territory for me there Zed, as my bikes wiring runs from 1989 - 1998, although I have checked the colour wire coding you say you have for the 4 pin connector, black, white, light blue, and red/yellow, all connect to the magneto,on mine, the light blue goes to the neutral switch, black is your earth, white goes from magneto to the reg/rectifier,red/yellow comes out the magneto, and is common to the reg/rectifier one way, and the lighting switch the other way. Have you checked the regulator/rectifier, can you borrow one to test? other than that, the only other thing would be to check if the pick up coil is NFG. Nev P.S just out of curiosity, check your switch gear for the lighting and see if that red/yellow wire might be possibly shorting out with another wire inside the switch gear housing.
man o man am lost. well with bouts of ill health and being a total novice on this bike i got my pal to check stuff out horn was muffed sorted that. Right turn ignition nothing happens kick it over everything fires up comes to life everything works. so checked the rd yellow not touching anything lights swithc replaced battery with a new one regulator rec is fine he said Used mutlimeter after that he kinda just scratched his head mines the 3rm model and it says in manual check main earth strap dont know where that is possibly jus a dodgy earth anyways thanks for ur reply Nev and i will go back at it and scratch my head a bit more its due its mot soon.
