Piece of piss, Just need a few screwdrivers, Oh and probably a dust mask haha Mine's got built in dust filters so I need not worry Should be 2 screws holding the left door on (left door as your looking at the front panel) Then you're in, do what you need to do (from what it sounds like i'm still sure it's the power supply (I reckon the 12V rail has gone down but it's still letting some power through the 5V and/or 3V rails))
Thanks mate, what about finding the psu and CMOS battery, what should be i looking for and also what about disconnecting them and replacing if needs be, is it simply unsrew a few things and replace?? lol :)
CMOS battery is a silver battery, about the same circumference as a pound coin maybe a tiny bit bigger Should be easy enough to find, there should be a little clip at the side to press in with a little screwdriver and it should just pop out Remove it while having your power lead removed, wait some time (30 seconds should be sufficient) Then put it back in, plug the power cable back in and try powering up again When it doesn't work you know you will need a new PSU Which brings me onto..... Power supply, can't really miss it, it's where your kettle lead plugs in and is normally held in by 4 screws on the rear of the pc (where you plug your lead in) Good luck bro
Ok so i finally found the time to get into the tower and now i know i need a new psu as i tried disconnected the CMOS battery and putting it back in but it didnt solve the problem, ive looked into a video regarding how to remove and install a new psu and it so easy so ill be doing it myself, cant believe the pc shops were trying to charge around the £100 mark,
anyway my question is what PSU do i need to buy as i heard in the pc shop i have to get one to suit the following specs of the tower itself, am i right?? could any one advise what psu to buy, nothing too fancy and expensive, one which does the job and which will last a while ;)
I tried to take a pic of my old psu but the writing is just too blury as ive messed up my 3gs at the minute so if you need the info ill write it out :)
If it's a basic pc you won't need anything fancy If it's for gaming then you'd need something with about more ooomph Your board will probably have a 24 pin connector unless it's really old then it will require a 20 pin connection How many hard drives/disk drives you running?
Its a basic PC mate, nothing special, it was bought from argos :)
Its only got one disc drive and as for hard drives im guessing one as well, as i dont know what the hardrive looks like lol, can you tell by the pic above mate??
and as for the connectors i bought the computed xmas last year so would you say its a 24 pin??
Jeeeeeez look at the dust on your CPU cooler LOL See that big chunk of wires going to the board? Count down one side of the connection box.. If there is 12 down one side then there will be a total of 24 wires, if there is 10 going down one side there is a total of 20 wires
Haha yeah it's not the best sign, Think I had the same cooler on my old dual core 775 board Was a right nightmare! It just made a blanket between the heatsink and fan, one day I took out all the dust and it went down about 10-15 degrees lol
A 300W PSU would be overkill IMO Just ensure it's got a 24PIN ATX connection, a 4 pin CPU connection, and 2 sata power connectors (you could use a molex to sata connector, they're usually 99p)
All you need is a bog standard ATX power supply reef, ATX means it has the connections you need, where i work we sell standard 500W PSUs for £19, you can fit it in 5 minutes it's simple as fúck.
Also what computer shops quoted you a ton for a PSU swap? **** we do it for £49 inc part and labour and do it while they ****ing wait lol, everyone seems particularly pleased at that part lol.
Just remember, ATX. Not that you would manage to get the wrong one anyway....it's a STANDARD for a reason :P
So you're saying if I walked into your shop and bought a £19 power supply your shop will have made zero profit?? No way They'll have them for shed loads cheaper to cover stuff such as staff's wages, electric, renting the premises. NO shop would be able to stay open in this climate if they sold everything at the prices they got them for and just 'hoped' the customers would want it fitting to make income..
Hey up just what i said lol.. New PSU and ur up and running. I built my own gaming machine just before xmass 775 mobo... then bought a quad cpu Q9550 @ 2.83GHz but only bothered with one gig ram as cba to spend anymore on it even though i know it needs more ram.. But dose run very fast.
windows seven 32bit.. but dose run nice.. also plays fifa 12 nice smooth.. converts a avi file to dvd files in 20mins and then bruns it to dvd in 5mins or so.. bruns xbox360 games in like 30mins. Oh forgot to say i have an old gtx260 garphics card.. but hey dose the job..

Why! Erm Why????
Such a high end computer and you're running windows 32 bit?
You computer would caine most things you'd throw at it with a 64 bit op! IF you increase them memory.
Yep. I know that 32bit an 64bit are just for little extras like reading more RAM. That's why I'm not bothered if im using 32bit. But I hear that the new Windows 8 might have xbox360 app like xp mode on seven. But I don't think they will unless they launch the 720.
Or free if you know the right people Not paid for any RAM, CPU's SSD's, laptop harddrives, USB Drives in the last 6 years haha Just been offered an i5 CPU but didn't want it as I've literally just built this one and don't want the agro of getting a new board, heatsink etc
well if you didnt want it id of had it for free lol.. but the newest pc's now have like 7/8 cores in them.. but they are to much £££ this cpu i got in mine cost me £155. The mobo cost me £40. but sold my old computer first then bought new bits.
OK so Ive finally got the new psu delivered, all nice and dented, but oh well if it works i dont mind ;) thanks ebuyer, nice packaging lol
Anyway First time fitting a psu, looked at some YouTube vids but im still not sure regarding a couple of wires, lol
Heres a link to pictures of the inside of the tower, the bits on the board which have no wires connected to them and pics of some of the wires from the psu which im unsure,
Hopefully with my master paint skills your be able to work out what is what and be nice like you lot always are and let me know where everything goes :),
Ive placed numbers next to each connector so that you can easily state which wire goes where, for example number 0 to number 12 :)
As well when removing the old psu a couple weeks back i forgot where one cable goes, it comes from the front of the tower where the headphone and mike jack are, any ideas where it goes, there is a picture?? lol
Oh yeah as for the drive connectors coming from the psu i know which ones they are but don't know which one to use as you can see from the pic one has one connector coming off the drive connector and another has 2... lol :)
Well that pic you took is fine Mine it kinda the same.. Them pins are for the case/tower little things like reset button harddrive light on tower that flashes and power on light.. maybe a few other things but nothing to really worrie about.. My motherboard never come with a user guide so I had to look up the name/make & model of my motherboard and download the user guide so I could see where them pins went on the board but for some reason I've not got the reset button working or the harddrive light put in the right place.. but cba to fiddle around with it lol.
Solongs your RAM, CPU, HDD and PSU are all connected up then them little pins i wouldnt worry to much about.. but if your the sorta person who likes it to work to a T then download a user guide or have a look on your new PSU on the little pins they should be named and the motherboard might be named or numbered so you might not understand the numbers or letters like A+ on one set of 6 pins and then A- on the other..
