3 Months?
Where you got this information from that you speak?
I certainly haven't read it.. confuse

Post up what year your bike is and we'll go from there.. In the mean time.. LEAVE THE WIRES ON YOUR CDI ALONE!!

There should be something sticking in the back of your clocks called a reed switch, all you need to do is pull that out and tuck it to one side (don't even have to cut any wires)
Did it to mine and didn't notice any power difference though

After that either grind the exhaust in half and take the restrictors out or buy an aftermarket pipe

Could even pull the snorkel off the airbox and up-jet the carb (never up-jetted any of my DTR's after I've pulled the snorkel though, well I did once and it seemed the same if not worse!)

Shouldn't need to be done but while you have your exhaust off 'finger' your exhaust port and ensure your power valve is flush with the rest of the cylinder, if not adjust cables until it is
