has any one tried there dtr with the magnito weight removed , the gret metal plate riveted to the front of the magnito????

iv a  cuple of spares so may experiment!

i no the difference it made adding a weight to my cr 250 and what it felt like after removing it

so im assuming it should make some difference to engine rpm when removed

confuse

Ive got shiny red a scooter tuner on facebook and people are always asking him to lighten the magneto on their scooters so it must be a mod worth doing.

I'd imagine itll help your engine spin up faster, but at the sacrifice of torque?

what does this magnito do? where abouts on the bike is it? and is it on there for a reason lol, or is it a weight to restrict the speed a little bit?

It's just a dead weight Yamaha put in the engine to slow it down since 2 strokes have 2x the power of 4 stroke and UK have set restrictions on how much power a 'learner legal' 125 can have
Same goes with the power bands, they only put bog standard black ones on standard DTR's but if you get a different coloured one it''ll be a right monster, I think it's red that makes it wheelie better/easier and blue that makes it have the same top speed/power as the RS125 oh and the green one makes for better petrol consumption (green as in better for the environment, not filling the tank up as much)
Problem with power bands is that you've gotta take the whole cylinder off just to put them on (you put them inbetween the piston rings)

That's about it really, any questions and I'll try and help further smile

this is a magnito

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/YAMAHA-DTR-125-FLYWHEEL-/150708885868?pt=UK_Motorcycle_Parts&hash=item2316f3196c#ht_500wt_1287

as you can see theres a big silver weight riveted to the front edge of it

a ring of magnets on the inside produce the ignition and lighting power when spinning round the stator coils

most people call this the flywheel

but the fly wheels are actually the crank shaft halfs/weights

smile

Okay I'm back but on a serious note..
I'm 95% sure my RE's flywheel was the same as the TZR one posted in the eBay link!
Well it looked remarkably similar, it's been too long since I've had a DTR. might swap my KLX for one if I ever get the chance wink

Its behind the left hand side engine cover, at a guess theres about 8 bolts holding the cover on, unscrew them and youll be able to get to it, there is no oil in there so dont worry about that.
