LED INDICATORS, Seriously need your help guys :)

Please could everyone help to sort out this new problem of mine as until its resolved im not allowed to ride my bike, mums orders :/ lol

Anyway I bought 2 pairs of arrow indicators off eBay and with it came a free relay, my mate and mate me was fitting them today, here's exactly what happened:

We first changed the relay from standard to the provided LED relay, we removed the original bulb indicators from the rear of the bike, we then replaced them with the LED indicators, After doing that we turned the ignition on to see if they were working properly, the indicators flashed at the right rate front and back, however the relay had an indicator alert beeping sound so we turned the ignition off and disabled the sound using a screwdriver ;) (cant think whats its called but its meant to let the rider know that the indi's are on)

Once again made sure it was all working fine and it was. Then we moved on to the front indicators but before that my mate decided to remove the hawk alarm unit from the bike as i was needing to send it off to get it replaced, theirs wires which were connected up to the indicators and other components of the bike but we left them in place but it was wiring from the alarm. anyway after replacing the front right indicator we decided again to check to see if it was working, this is where the problems started, the indicators now flashed constantly, so every time we indicated right the right indicators would come on like their meant to but they flashed too fast etc. We thought it could of been because of the existing fourth original bulb indicator so we changed it to the new one and still no luck

frustrated so we decided to go back to the old relay and try another off a rs125, both only allowed the indicators to sit constantly on, so every time we indicated right the right indicators would come on like their meant to but it constantly stayed on and also the inidcator 'aware' light on the dashboard didnt work anymore. So we went back to the LED relay and now it was doing the same thing as the others where before it was flashing too fast.

We unplugged the relay from the indicators and turned the ignition on, THE INDICATORS STILL CAME ON but constant!! ??? ?? ? ?? Supposedly when removing relay they shouldn't turn on at all, is that correct??
So we thought the indis were still coming on because there was current still going through the wires which were connected to the battery and up to the indicators but after disconnecting these wires from the battery and by cutting every wire which was connected to any of the four indicators related to the hawk alarm, Still no luck, THE INDICATORS WERE STILL LIGHTING CONSTANTLY???

So here i am with indicators lighting constantly with no relay, and when you connect the relay back up it does the same thing, please people, any ideas, mates baffled and said im going have to take it to a garage because he cant understand why the indicators are coming on??

Please please please, any ideas i would be very grateful :)

disabled the sound using a screwdriver ;) ???? so you jabbed the sound speaker thingy ?

also swaping a standard relay for the one supplied may have done damage the led lights will have there own little boards inside maybe with resistors ? chances are they run at a much lower voltage than 12v .

think the relay its self is realy just a flasher unit so the lights would come on without it .

think you may have done something llike

ohhhh this 12v battery not working ? lets try that 24v of the truck see what that do,s lol

I could be wrong just guessing

Could i ask everyone do the LED indicators constantly come on even if you dont have any relay connected or not?? :) Will be trying to get it sorted myself so this would be handy to know :)

Also looking at another thread it was going on about how the indicator light on the dashboard didnt work after changing to led and that i need to replace the bulb to an LED, is that the reason why the dashboard indi light isnt working?? :)

Probably. But electrics are always a bastard to work on. Personally I love the dtx indicators.

Right just got back and supposadly i need a more powerful relay as its not powerful enough for the led's and the indicator bulb in the clocks, can see that being right as when looking at the indi bulb on the dashboard there was hardly any power getting to it, is there actually more powerful relays people??? :)

did some checks on the indicators last night and there's defo a problem with either the led indis or the relay, heres why:: Removed front indicators 1st, put LED relay with new set, still stayed on constantly with LEDS as you would know, put LED relay with old rear indicators and flashed at the right rate, maybe suggests that the LED relay provided is actually a bulb relay, checked to see if wires on led were connected the wrong way round which they wernt, bulb indicators dont work without relay but the LEDs do but constantly, suggests faulty indicators, so yeah, ebay seller is up for sorting the problem but at this rate ill probs go back to using jus bulb but choose a different set

the indicators stay constantly on because when you use LED indicators you need inline resistors. BECAUSE LED ones use LESS power than standard bulbs (that should of been obvious)

wire it all up as normal as you would for standard bulb indicators then buy some inline resistors from ebay, wire them up with the LED's and youll be spot on.

normal bulbs are safer for use in the daytime and brighter, however LED ones last longer, they wont pop with vibration and they look alot cooler at night
