thought i have change nath, this one was so cheap, i could`nt say no too.
ive had it running, the engine is spot on, runs real well. pulls well, and 4T thump sound. just needs a bloody good tart up. Its very solid. and being fuel prices as they are, appeal to the commuter too, with Honda`s reliable engines, economy to boot.
keep us updated on this dude, i like the xr's aswell was very tempetd to get one but want/need somhing newer for racing, u thought but gettin the 250 lump in there??
The CRF230F lump will go straight in, even the CRF150F too. I have seen loads of nice bits for them engines, Hot cams, race bits..ooerrrrrr... And they look identical to the XLR engine. A nice XLR/CRF230F on L plates..lol
Anyhow... the Forks, yokes..exhaust..... all done now.. i have been busy.
my little corner of the flat is a shrine..lol.. (where my fishing rod lives lol) its the finished parts dept.
Now the Prolink suspension is done today..the elbow grease factory is in operation..fork me its a shed lot of scrubbing..
Yeah as the header's are pretty much straight you'd have some issues trying that with a expanny! some of these 4 strokes do come loud as stock, under load my stock zaust was reasonably loud but now with the straight through it's a whole new kind of loud! muhahahaha
]
you can also hear it popping on the upshift's aswell which i love! then you have the downshift's which are amazing!

ta nath, as with most of these 4T`s, the silencer has baffle plates welded internal, a vertical blanking plate 3/4 the way in, just slows the gas down, this is the way to just to bring up the dB a little, a long thick bar in through the end of the silencer, 4Lb hammer, few hard whacks!.. sorts that out. and plus it makes it free flowing. Sill at legal levels tho.. But in canada, and some parts of the US, they were indeed, toned right down on noise. Even the chineese 4T`s standard can be done like this too.
Aftermarket pipes, can be added of course, but i like, the original pipes, not only that, if i get stopped, then i can tel mr plod, look, its original!.
Got no sound clips yet, but will, when its running again..
fork me that loud!..love it... A guy on my estate has a CCM 640, that fraps like a goodun. Kids run in all directions, and dogs howl.. and you can hear car alarms going off, as he rides down the road.. I cant wait till i get a my full ticket..
Haha yeah man i bet its loud! Usually keep it second gear round town then drop it to first to scare the oaps ;). cab beat a nice Thumper minus nicea nice ducati with 50mm termis
Today, was quite busy doing non related bike stuff, but did get an hour or so clocked in..
New bars, and my clock face made on the comp, printer, and a laminater, converted to MPH in stead of KMH.. alltho, the trip and distance still in KMH, bugger all i can about that, unless i get a converter.. a small touch in red under the needle, honda xlr.. overall goes well with the white frame i rekon..
Had an issue with the front caliper, after bleeding the brakes, it was holding the wheel, These bikes use twin pistons. one of the pistons was seized.. too me ages to get the bugger out. All cleaned and free`ed. I have now a good front brake.
The frame is huge, well built indeed, nice diameter tubing, feels, very tough, i can see honda making it like a tank..lol
im on the case of the little bits n peices now. Cleaning, painting, **** loads of nuts n bolts..
Taken me almost exactly 3 weeks. Spending a good 3 hours a days, most days. except weekends, not home,, i am out to play so to speak.
My opinion, thes bikes are very well made. The frame is built like a tank. Deff a lot stronger than a DTR, the tubing is bigger, and braced in a few places more. I can see why these things go round the world.
Engine is bullet proof, they rekon. Built on Honda`s legend of engine design 4T OHC, I like it, but sadly, i like a lighter frame, more "engineered" strength. Than brute force. Frame would suit more of a 250cc +, and instead of hopping over the mud, these would just plough through.
I shall ride it to the MOT station, take for a spin out on the country roads, see what the feel is like. Got a feeling, its going to be a very tame ride on the open roads.
Thanks for watching the thread, and with the great comments. I wonder whats my next project.. 2T powered perhaps...lol
