i am using the standard crank with new bearings, these were replaced when the top end was fitted,i was using a 16 tooth front but 1st and 2nd gear were too short for my liking so i fitted a 18t front and a 55t rear and i handles it fine, still wheelies in 1st and 2nd and sits at 70mph at 7000rpm

i had a 55r on mine semt to run out of drive around 65mph had to drop down gears to get it to go again
im gonmna have a play with the front size see if thats any better next 16 at mo got 17-18-19 to try tho
+1 With going premix, always fill tank with pre-mix, and if on a fairly long run, chuck a small bottle in a rucksack, pre measured with 125ml, to add to 5 litres of petrol incase of needing to stop at a garage.
Plus removal of the 2t oil bottle, makes a good place to install an alarm.

I always mix oil in the fuel tank, Like norfe said, one part to fail and its a top end rebuild. I immagine that the tube wich the oil flows trough can easily get shut by some dirt that in some way could manage to get into the oil tank,
Mixing it with the fuel in the fueltank is always safer anyways.
but NEV, do you use 250ml on 5 liter ?. thats 5 % mixture, I always heard 4-5 % mixture while running it in. And 2% mixture normally, i have 200 ml on 10 liters, but i have never filled as much as 10 liter, The most ive filled is about 9,10 liters. and with 2 dl oil thats a bit more than 2% mixture, wich should be fine according to me.
Nordt did you run in with synthetic oil or mineral
as im hearing different opinions on this?
Actually im not shure on this, And i dont know whats the best. I think i heard someone said mineral oil is best when running in. i think i used Synthethic or something called semi synthetic. Im not shure. i can check tomorrow.
Hmm. Never tought about that. But that might be true. altough i dont think its noticable in any way. Because the engine is only getting 2% less fuel. And that 2% cant matter. or am i wrong ?.
If you are driving with a stock barrel and a Dep xpanny. And u then drive with a 250 jet and use the oil tank, and the engine mixes the oil / fuel by itself.
But if you decide to stop using the oil tank and mix it with the fuel in the fuel tank instead, And if you then would have to upjet, You would have to get a jet that gives 2 % more fuel. And thats like nothing. So how much bigger jet would you need ? :P

Ok thanks m8, because i think athena say run in with synth but lots of people are saying Mineral oil....
I dont think your supposed to have more oil mixed in just because its more cc. just increase the amount of fuel the engine gets, and if it gets enough fuel and air. 2% oil is still correct.
But i think that if you run with a 34mm carb. And still use the oil tank to make the engine mix fuel itself. It will make the engine get less oil than it should. Because the oil pump makes the engine get 2 % oil all the time, And thats with the 28mm carb. So if you run with a 34mm carb it will get more fuel but still the same amount of oil.
When i bought the 170cc it said somewhere in a users manual how to run it in, and how much oil you should have, i think its supposed to me 3-4 % while running it in. and 1-2 % normally, But i might be wrong. i can check that later too.

Nordt my mistake, for 5 litres I take 125ml with me not 250ml, 250ml is for a 10litre full tank of petrol, I run 40:1 for my premix, which works out 25ml per liter. I've put a thread up on useful links for a program you can download called RATIO BUDDY that works out what amount of 2t oil you need per liter of petrol, depending on what ratio that you want to use.
One more thing i want to add to the "review " is that this barrel is awesome to wheelie with, Its so strong from the bottom. With the stock barrel i had to have a certain rpm before i shifted to 3rd while wheeleing, or else the front wheel would drop. with the 170cc i just get the front wheel up and shift to third and then just balance there at a low rpm.
i have a 170kit which i've yet to even take out the box to fit, looking for the right DT to put it on... do you got a vid of yours just ticking over/revving a bit so ican hear the sound difference?
+ you might wanna learn to change gear while wheeling, you're going epic high revvs while on the back wheel and are going to ruin that piston in no time learning like that. just keep your foot swiftly on the break, get it up and quickly change gear if you feel you're about to hit the point of no return, your foot is already over the break and ready to bring it back down
I actually learnt that now, That vid was shot a coupple of days ago, But yesterday i pulled my first wheelie changing gears. Im gonna put up a vid where i wheelie and change gears later when i get a bit better.
And today i learnd to use the brake so i dont flip too xD
i tried going from 2nd gear to 4th gear today, Shifted to 3rd and did really well, then after a while i tried changing to 4th but i didnt have enough rpm so didnt get enough power when i hit 4th gear so the front wheel fell down.
