hi

can someone please help. i have not long bought a DT 125 r and the guy i bought it off told me to come on here because people are very helpful. i dont know alot about bikes but there was a knocking sound in the engne and we thought it may be the head or a bearing somewhere. we took the head off and it is brand new and has no wear on it. next we took the clutch casing off and one of the cogs on the gear box appears to be loose, its the cog at the top in the picture below, does anybody know if this is a common fault and easy to fix or will we have to strip the gear box out to fix it??

You're profile picture.. Is that you're 'new' bike (PatMan's 'old' bike)
Or did you just steal it cause it looked pretty? haha

No idea about the knocking sound but I'm sure some of the cogs on my DT had some 'play' but not enough to actually warrant a knocking noise, infact non of my DTR's have ever 'knocked' so never needed to repair it

If it's that bad just get a louder exhaust, if you can still hear it afterwards then that's when you know you've got a serious issue

i bought the bike off him on ebay and he told me to join this site. the cog wobbles from side to side. i will just replace the part and see if it still knocks when it is rebuilt

if it wabbles side to side the shaft is knacked or the gear or the bearing , the gear should be a snug fit on the shaft and wud ruff key

if the shaft is damaged then the cases will need to be split and it replaced

,make sure its tight befor the tab it locked up on the tab washer !!
