Finally back on the road. New ignition coil came from yambits today. Took a few bump starts and some fresh petrol but eventually she fired up and stayed that way lol. Some running problems but i suspect some carb cleaner will do the trick :)
Now to go for a nice ride at the weekend, get my DEP on the back and get it sorted for the DT meetup!

Just a couple of issues, won't start on leccy start, turns over as normal but doesn't seem to fire. Bumps ok but this is tiring as ****.
Seems a bit boggy now and then, possibly month old fuel still mixed in with the newer stuff causing this? Had to turn idle screw up high so it doesn't cut out lol, because **** bumping it whenever i start at lights.
when i got to work this morning i turned the engine off via keys, turned ignition back on to check the PV cycle speed (was running sluggish from flat battery, not been used in a month, again this could be the reason electric start doesn't work? ) Anyways when turning the ignition back on there was a small backfire? Anyone know why?
maybe the engine was still spinning over when you urned the key. older brother used to turn the ignition off and on when driving to get it to backfire lol
month old fuel shouldnt be an issue, i didnt use the rs for about a month and it just needed turning over more but ran fine after. Its more then likely the carb needing a good strip and clean. the jets will possibly be blocked from 2 stroke oil and gunk.
hows the spark plug look after a thrash? i was thinking maybe you should re restrict the pv dude whilst you cant fiddle with the jetting as it may run lean with it open in the higher revs. maybe thats worth considering
Brand new spark plug mate, remember we bought one when it first died? Using that one. B9ES is the code. Could this be the cause does anyone know?
Apart from the electric start not working it is running a dream now. Ran some carb cleaner through it, fresh tank of fuel. blasted up to 70 and stayed there from brighton to shoreham on the dual carraigeway. Not bad at all for a bike still restricted :)
yes the old one was a BR8ES, when the HT lead went i thought it would be spark plug as i was miles away in crawley went to halfords and got this one as i couldn't remember the model exactly. I'm thinking now it's gonna be the wrong one hence my bump problem lol. Bikes of brighton tomoz to get the right one methinks :)
the 9 is for full power, it should be fine as yours is semi derestricted. its a slightly cooler plug i believe. maybe an 8 would help but not much i wouldnt have thought.
as for not starting on electric start, that is weird. it seems to spin over fast enough it not like its struggling. unless the battery is that buggered that its not giving a nice bright spark under load whilst the starter motor is going over
is it bogging out like when you run out of fuel m8 or is it when the powervalve tries to take , mine did it for a while an it had me baffled cos it would only go wrong in the snow to start with so i wasnt bothered till it statred doin it all the time, i kept changing out plugs out like yourself an found out in the end it was just a simple connector being dodgy the red wired round plug from the pick coil just needed a clean up an tighened a bit never done it since
caused a backfire like you say aswell maybe worth a look
i have had the pick unit in the side case by the flywheel come off one of its screws before to an that causes the same issues not starting an backfiring
also wen some idiot puts a piston put in backwards causes backfires an non starting to, the guy who sold me my dt did this an couldnt have known
did actually start this way an run briefly with difficulty an a lot of backfiring after dragging it with a car on a rope before finding out the piston was backwards lol

it does in the end m8 it goes in to the cdi first then out to the ignition coil
but the pick up coil is a little block in that case the flywheels under it takes the electricty connducted from the flywheel to the bike
its on the engine casing left side sitting on the bike theres a wire coming out of the top of the engine right next to where the clutch cable goes on the engine . an out follow that an youl come to the plastic 2 wired round connector block im on about . it should have a red/white and a white/blue wire (maybe diff colurs on an re not sure)
there is 2 of theses round plug connectors the same there will be a green and black wired one to somewhere dont worry about that 1 for now tho

haha its just my offroader m8 poor baby gets all my road bikes hand me downs,
yeah a duff conection on the ignition coil too will be giving the same symptoms its all part of the same system . hope you get it fixed anyway m8 its not a big issue its just a bit of twod to locate whats actually goin wrong took me ages

unless the battery is that buggered that its not giving a nice bright spark under load whilst the starter motor is going over
This is what i suspect to be honest, seems to turn the starter motor at normal speed but just doesn't seem to work. P.S. Couldn't get it bump started last night, got one of those irridium plugs, changed it. Wouldn't bump, changed back and same thing. Got so tired in the end (plus major ballache) that i just left it at work lol.
Might just use my free roadside assistance with the RAC and be like. "FIX IT PLEASE!" haha. Or should i try a new battery from bikes of brighton?
easiest method for a fix is give the wire im on about a gentle tug an a fiddle whilst trying to start the bike itll either start or it wont then but itll let ya know whether it is that pickup connetion or not
i wont be fixed to for good but it used to get me goin again when i was stuck out in the cold an wet
simple fix m8
i can put a pic up of the wire if your still a bit baffled m8
How old is your spark plug there lol..clean that **** yo! i'll give the connector a go if reachable but it's more likely to be the corroded battery terminal or the wire going into the ignition coil
anyone care to pop up a few pics of the dt carb layout?
just stripped my peds carb to sort out an idle and starting issue with blocked jets, so im happy to give sean a hand doing his. just want to see how much work there is just to get to the float bowl, can it be removed whilst the carbs still plugged in and connected?
Aye, if you undo slightly the 2 jubilee clips, on the intake and outlet on the carb, you can turn the carb just enough to get to the bottom float bowl screws, so you can take the float bowl off and get to the jets, that way.
