Engine fully stripped
Permalink

Getting everything ready to go back in. This is everything in a DT engine bar the carb (stank of petrol), the ball bearing for pushrod (lost ordered a new one) , Thrust washer that sits under clutch basket (lost ffs furious £10, ordered.)

Apart from that this is everything that goes in there. I split it into 3 sections when working on it. Makes it much less daunting. Took pics and quick vid for reference. If I can remember i'll make a how to

Inner (crank, gears)

Outer L (cogs, clutch)

Outer R (flywheel)

Honestly, it annoyes me seeing engines like this. Because while i can sort of see how it works, i havent a ****ing clue how to do this stuff.

That's mainly why I like doing this stuff over and over, just need more tools. When you section it off it seems a lot easier.

 practice makes perfect

just get an old engine and strip it and build it

only way i learned once uv done it theres nothing to it  common sence really

things shunt be to close and rub or to tight they wont spin

every thing drives off some thingf else in the motor just get one and have a play biggrin

Casings back together, move onto cleaning carb and PV

For the life of me though I can't remember where that small rubber o washer ring goes and the gold washer beside it, think they came of one of the needles.

Also can't get this panel off thanks to that stupid star screw that I haven't got a tool for, the gasket under there needs changing. In Haynes it doesn't show a gasket but i'm sure they sell one

Yep could be, the other 'o' ring it could be is the draining screw for the float bowl, the exploded pic shows a different type of draining plug, it shows a big 13mm? plug right at the bottom, but the drainage screw on mine is very similar to the throttle screw. Or it could be "52" on the mixture screw, thinking about it, Ithink theyre both the same size rings.

Ah nice one, I had a feeling. At some point someone else has stripped it and must have lost the o ring for one of the screws. It's knackered anyway will have to get a new one.

Aha so they do make them , perfect cheers man.

But wtf that's where that rubber ring must have come from but I didn't strip anything in the bowl confuse I took the float out, checked needle and put it back. With that repiar kit it shows 2, wtf. In the Haynes it doesnt show any of them lol

This might be useful for bits needed, or just where stuff goes.

Nice one man at least I know that gasket can be replaced once I get that screw off. I'll check parts tomorrow and find out which exact kit it is and price difference, I'll post it up.

Yeah I don't think this is exact ( I don't have 2 number 10's) but it gives me an idea of where bits go, the Haynes one misses out half of it.

Aye just split my flatslide all down, and chucked it all in a parafin bath for a good soaking, daft idea about that single star screw, was the same on my other flatslide too, all screws either pan head or if replacing with allen screws are M4 thread btw.

Maybe cut a new gasket out from gasket paper? I bought a box of those different type of bladed craft knives, they're good for that sort of intriqeuette work, bout £7.00

Cheers man

You know what's stupid, that side of the carb with the huge gasket isn't covered on Yamaha's parts list. we sat looking at the microfiche and it doesn't list that gasket or anything.

Will just reuse this old one with some sealant. Once the thrust washer arrives I can start putting it back together.

That's also a good idea which i'll do actually, this one looks as old as the bike. It's just to stop dust getting in so not majorly important but important all the same.
