alright guys just wondering does anyone know exactly what to do to get a suzuki rm 125 road legal i got it a while ago now and have done nothin with it so think its time to either try and get her road legal or sell her which atm is more then likely going to be the case
i was asking about doing this down the local suzuki shop a while ago, and the response I got was "too much, MOT'ers dont much through these days, and putting a crosser on the road is pointless engine is made for MX'ing, no casual riding and there's way too many regulations to pass through and very costly. IMO forget about it, or buy one already done"
i have a mate who owns his own garage who will put it through and it was more so i could ride it to a field or track somewere i might just buy a dt then and transfer some stuff over i dont no shatterd dreams lol
My mate has a recently bought a KX 250 2 stroke and he's made it road legal. All he's got on it is a numberplate. Passed MOT. The friggin rear lights not even wired in. Not difficult to make a bike road legal. As long as the instrument isn't there then they can't fail it.
DVLA. You need to take the bike over to a DVLA inspection area. They'll check the frame numbers/engine numbers and register it to the road. Make sure it isn't stolen items by checking with the police. Take a few months or so to get it all cleared.
You can still get it mot'ed without a V5. We drove a split screen 1964 campervan about 40 miles with no numberplates on to an inspecting area. It was just MOT'ed and it was tax exempt.
If you're serious then you want to be calling up the DVLA and see what the chances are of it passing UK road legislation.
There are a number of ways to register a vehicle. If it already has frame/ engine numbers and it's not nicked then you start by applying for a dating certificate from the manufacturer. In your case you need to contact Suzuki UK, get the right department and ask them for the certificate. It won't be free !! This will tell DVLA when the bike was manufatcured and all the other information they need to register it. Hopefully DVLA will then issue an age related registration mark for your bike (so e.g. if it was built in June 2002 you will get a ## 02 ### plate). You will also need to get it insured, MOT'd and inspected by DVLA. The best thing to do is research it yourself via DVLA and/ or VOSA so you know exactly what you are talking about. Personally I think MX bikes are a bit of a handful on the road and if you want to put lights etc on it you'll have to run them off a battery - no lighting circuit on MX bikes.
It's a bit of a ball ache but do-able. I built a monkey bike from scratch and registered it as brand new - would prob never do it again, too much aggro.
get redy to spend some money in top end rebuilds if ur putting a motocross bike on the road, 10 hours and there shagged, with the weay they rev,best thing u can do is sell it and get a proper road going bike..iv had 2 cr 125 sms there good fun but not worthe the hassle, coppers love a tug because of the noise, and you have to practice good maintanance to keep them reliable
