Has anyone converted an old dt to run lights directly off the battery?
I doubt it would be too difficult, will work it out for myself with a few diagrams but would be good if anyone who has done it before could shed some light (pun not intended haha)
Nah guess I would have had a switch, running off ignition gets rid of that issue
Has seriously no one else does it? Seems like an easy thing to do my mates RE is so much nicer, constant lighting irrelevant of the revs and it doesn't flicker like mad. Also nice to have it on in the dark sometimes without the engine running.

I hear that's bad for the ignition coil?
Something about popping the ignition leaving the lights on.
I do it anyway when i'm taking photos or in the woods at night and want a drink haha.
I've wired lights all over the shot on my bike. I've got an RE. Wired a number plate light up to the oil bottle so I can see how much oil i have left at night lol.

Doing the country lane bends slowing down with the front light flickering isn`t great fun & if you end up breaking down in the country where I live you aint got street lamps so you are in complete pitch black darkness I`ve had this problem once I`ve always carried a torch ever since

Couldn't imagine so, only issue is draining the battery really.
Yeah would be nice
That's why I asked ral did some night time green laning last night and as soon as I pulled the clutch in it's like it turned off
dont like having constant lights on all day. Not really a night time rider and only use the bike a few times a week if that. Not sure what the cause is of the flickering issues people have.
Unless I'm mistaken DTRs do not run it directly off the main battery circuit, but the engine instead so scale for the revs. That's why it flickers so much at least both of mine have been like that
REs run it off an ignition live so can take power directly from the battery
Cheers fuse that helps a lot, I'm off on hols now for a few weeks but will sort it out when I'm back
