I was going along the motorway today (it was raining like mad) doing about 60-65mph at about 8,000-9,000 RPM.

Then the bike revs started dropping and raising and dropping and raising. I pulled onto the hard shoulder and flicked into 1st gear and slowly revved it into 2nd gear without a problem. Then I put the power on and the revs started going wacko again. I stopped the engine, had a little wait, then set off again and the bike was fine. I was doing 60mph for about 20-30 miles before the revs went all flickery again and I pulled over, waited, then set off, all was fine again.

Any ideas blankstare?

My best guess is it's got something to do with the rain? Because I've done quite a bit of 60mph riding (in the dry) and nothing like this has ever happened before.

The fuel tank was at least 3/4 full both times the revs went all wacko.

The oil is about 3/4 full.

Coolant is within limit.

yeah id go looking for water getting in to the electrics some where give all the lectrics under the tank a good spray wi wd40 and smear instant gasket around the connections, will just be able to peel it off when its dry so no hassle

Some times it's just sketchy fuel. When was the last time you cleaned out your carburetta? Sometimes the sludge can cause irregularities when running but fine on tick over or without load.

Or it could be the water.

Had this sort of problem with dodgey fuel on my Aprilia.

If none of the above check your throttle cable see if its sticking, it will have that rev racing effect if it is, mine was doing that the other week, checked at the cable at the 2 into one junction was cruddy as fook in there, replaced with a new one, seems to have cured it now.
