got and 89 dtr and bit confused on how the power valve should work, when pegged open the bike had a bit of a problem gettin to 6k rpm but once past it did wheelies no probs.
me thought gettin a servo for it would make things better on lower revs, so i got one, 3 wire type. installed it and found out before starting the engine that the piston was now hitting the pv drum, out came the file and grinded a lot of the pv drum to accomodate the 58.4mm piston fitted. now the pv closes and opens the port (piston side pic1) according to revs, lots of torque on the lower revs but not so much on high revs anymore, cables from servo to round box are 1 to 2 and 2 to 1, tho i read somewhere in this forum that on the early dtr model they should be crossed so 1 goes to 1 and 2 to 2, which would mean that the power valve will be then turning clockwise when u rev the bike as opposed to anti clock which it is at the moment.
question is, should the power valve close the piston side (pic1) or the exhaust pipe end (pic2). i know i stole this pics from some other post in this forum but i cant describe it better.
engine code is 3bn it that helps.

thanks for the quick reply mate. at the min the pv runs the way u describe it, pic one. i was thinking that rather than adjusting the port timing the pv maybe could reduce the flow of gases on the other end pic two. could it work? will have to adjust cable lengths to achieve this but i got the time and can make an effort.
IT WILL BE A TOTALLY DIFRENT MACHINE WEN IT SET UP CORRECTLY, THE WAY IT IS IN PIC 2 WILL RESTRICK the flow of ex gass and kill the power
when the ignition is off the polly whell needs to allign with the hole at the back of it, used a 4 mm drill bit or similar to hold it in place while u set the cable adjusters to just about taught.. , then if its spinning the wrong way cables need swapping over
thanks for the help mate. tried disconnecting the 3rd wire from powervalve so all it does now is its cleaning cycle and not get any info from the ecu hence the power valve always stays at the open position and took it out for a ride. no power below 6k rpms again but the smile came after that, it will now rev to very near 10k rpm very quick, with the power valve connected never did rev past 8-8.5krpms didnt matter how you adjusted the cables, my plan is to install some kinda a switch to open the circuit of that 3rd wire so i can chose to either have a nice low torque power and when needed take it to sports mode and rev like crazy. very excited from todays ride, different bike.
Yep mate that's it, ask Norfe/Trip about that. They've got a killswitch setup, on for servo, off for pinned pv basically. I liked it for a bit when my servo was knackered but having now power below certain revs is annoying
its not just annoying, more like suicidal in london streets and especially the woods and mud i very often visit, really need the option of havin power below 6k. the reason im doin all this is that my mate rides a mk1 83 dt lc and could not bear bein overtaken by that bike. dont think he will stand a chance this time around. anyways experiment will be taking place tomorrow so will let you know how it goes.
i set mine half way open most of the time and auto when im in and around town
its easy to get used to u just have to flick the switch wen u turn her on and cut the power to the servo, worth doin tho its a good attribute to the setup
hey ppl. finally got what id like to call a very fine setup. in and around town nice auto power from the pv and at the flick of a switch a wild bike which now redlines. dont think i be making any more changes to it. the perfect setup. thanks for all the input guys.
