Frame details no reg plate only 17 digit vin number to go on with
Permalink

Ive just got hold of a frame does anyone know where I can check if a frame is an Insurance cat right off or if the bike was once stolen as all I have is 17 digit vin number they are in the right place and don`t look iffy. Tried them online checking sites but they want you to enter a reg detail and I have no reg plate confuse

Yamaha £40 ish with cover letter that dates it for reg purposes ,might need a vic check or the other check ??, can't remember the name (anyone???),if you go to look at it take a piece of string and a tape measure and eye it thru and check the head stock is not twisted or forced backwards in any way

Don`t get me wrong I appreciate MDK`s input & help but you have proof that YODA can be 90% sure he can come back with the required info I don`t want to be chasing my tail and being sent round around the garden with the DVLA. And I ain`t got a lotta love for the bacon if im honest. local bike dealer/parts is an option worth looking at. But I think its just easier if I pay YODA and will receive a pretty quick outcome I hate waiting just impatient me I suppose lol

supose the £23 is little money to lose and maybe if lucky a good gain for a legal fram if all comes back ok ...

but there as to be a cheaper if not free way .... as he is clearly makeing at least £13 if not more for each cheack could it work out if some of us pool together and get a trade hpi membership or something like that could be used by all forum members maybe for smaller fee ?
as I am sure if we set something up we would all be out scrounging frames of all shapes and sizes to check and it would pay for it,s self at some point ...

maybe the forum owner could sett it up and put a paypal or donate button for each hpi/vin check

I think that would be cracking if we could get a trade hpi membership or something simular up & running. I bet these memberships don`t come cheap though but with split costs between members wouldn`t be so damaging to our wallets. It does hold a mine of information that could be beneficial to many of us at some stage

a trade HPI account lets you check bikes from just frame numbers, also gives you the reg number as an added bonus.....

Dave did you get back the reg number then? albeit a Q plate reg number? as this is what I need to do for the 125XT i need to get cracking on with. but hopefully it'll be an 82 reg plate.

the q plate frame was one of 2 i got for field bikes.... as it turned out they were both the same bike? bike was stolen, frame numbers removed, recovered, new frame and put on a q plate... was worth the little fee though biggrin £30 for 2 frames,£23 for the check...£53 for a legal dt frame is cheap, even on a q biggrin you'd be amazed how many field dt's were just mot failures.... although most are right-offs. the check will give you your origional reg  for your xt biggrin

Its daft you cant buy your original reg number from DVLA, surely all the cars scrapped with potentially expensive personal numberplates, can put money into the coffers of the govt I woulda thought.

once you've got the reg,you can apply for the log book, assuming its not scrapped/written off/stolen. once you get it back its easy from then on in biggrin

it'll tell you the engine number(find another, change the number with dvla)

build your bike

mot it

tax it

ride off into the sunset laughing....

thats what i'm doing with mine at the moment biggrin
