also on a  V62  form there is space/option to enter the vin number  to apply for the logbook ..http://www.direct.gov.uk/prod_consum_dg/groups/dg_digitalassets/@dg/@en/@motor/documents/digitalasset/dg_067819.pdf

I would try filling this in and going to a local dvla office if you have one and asking over the counter if you need all the other details ?

as even after a hpi check you are going to still have to pay anyway for a v5

also like the option I posted above  we have all seen how some spares shops even halfords can enter your reg or vin for a parts check and get up most of your vehicles details . maybe pop to your local moto spares shop and ask could they check the vin for a small fee ?

another option is like some one said on a nother forum ask the police ? they can give you a reg and check with the vin ...but this may hold a down side if it comes back as stolen ?

I went down that route with DVLA MDK, they sent me to Exeter DVLA, who then sent me back to Swansea, back to Exeter, and so on, it were like centre c ourt at Wimbledon, even tried local plod, who couldn't/wouldn't help.

supose the £23 is little money to lose and maybe if lucky a good gain for a legal fram if all comes back ok ...

but there as to be a cheaper if not free way .... as he is clearly makeing at least £13 if not more for each cheack could it work out if some of us pool together and get a trade hpi membership or something like that could be used by all forum members maybe for smaller fee ?
as I am sure if we set something up we would all be out scrounging frames of all shapes and sizes to check and it would pay for it,s self at some point ...

maybe the forum owner could sett it up and put a paypal or donate button for each hpi/vin check

I did contact YODI but I didn`t find it of much help to be honest heres the emails sorry in advance if they seem abit jumbled up but basically It came back as not registered I payed Yodi via paypal sent the payment as a free gift. He turns round and says he was charged for it aswell???

Then he wanted me to pay another 15 Quid to do another check. Erm I think not lol but I did have a query with the entries he made in the check as the print out didn`t look the correct details that I had submitted to him he said he just copied and pasted but it didn`t look correct to me.

I ended up contacting DVLA told them I got a HPI check on the bike and it was coming back as unregistered. I asked them the way to go they said the best way to go now is build the bike get it MOT`d which can be MOT`d by using the vin number as there is no reg plate send photographs of the bike and all details relating to the bike if there is any and a covering letter saying you want to register the bike. We will then arrange for the bike to be inspected as long as inspection is fine we will then be able to register the bike. So looks like this is route I`m gonna have to take. I hate RED TAPE Grrrrr lol

EMAILS BELOW:

Hi

Unfortunately the frame number attached isnt registered in the UK.

Please check your 0 and o as thats the most common fault if thats right then I can confirm its not registered.

Hi

2 things, the first is that I still have to charge you for the first as I have been charged, however I will do another at £15 seeing as you didn't get the results the first time.

Secons, that frame number doesn't look right to me from experience, the last numbers are always numbers not letters but I can try it at your risk.

I can confirm it's 10699 not 1o699 lookl at the attached image.

Firstly these are the details I gave you JAYADE03 1000010699 all apart from the first six was numbers but looking at your screen shot again it looks like you have put JAYADE03 100001O699 can you look at the screen shot and confirm

Regards

Richard

Richard the reason I ask for teh frame number in the Paypal comments box is I literally copy and paste whatever you sendme, it eliminates any chance of error on my behalf.

Have you double checked the picture I sent you to teh actual bike and they are the same?

So your other bioke has an identical vin bar the last 4 digits?

On 28 June 2012 13:40, Richard Ray <ralyray@hotmail.co.uk> wrote:
Then if you confirm that you made an entry of JAYADE03 1000010699 there is no point in continuing as you have pointed out that the last numbers are always numbers not letters what i find surprising that that I have a v5 infront of me for my road legal 2002 model dt125r and everything except the last four numbers are the same. But this one comes back not registered I take it when it means not registered it was registered in another country?
