Ok so like many I accidentally snapped the bolt that drains the oil to the gearbox. I have drilled out most of the bolt and tapped a new thread in there. Ok so yeah I do want to put a helicoil but I need it to stop leaking oil.
My brother said that I should get some silicone gasket sealant and just use that.
What do you guys think?
If so I bought some stuff which he said it was shít stuff. Said there is some good stuff out there. So if I were to do that, could someone link me to some good high temperature stuff.
What you reckon? You reckon it ought to close the gap enough? I mean I need to helicoil it but lack the skill required for the job or getting the right threaded screw and length.
That first stuff looks like the silicone shít you would tile your bathroom with...?
How did you do this? did you just go ham on the broken screw in there and drill a hole and hammer the helicoil in ? . I snapped mine today, just when it started to get a little bit tight when tighening it , the screw snapped in 2 ....
Basically, when I did a full engine rebuild I took the opportunity to get this down to my work where we have a pillar drill. I carefully drilled out the old bolt and that revealed the thread. And hey presto fixed.
But that was with the crank case in half. So In situ....dunno. Have to put up with it dripping. Used to drive me up the wall it dripping all the time!
If you get some proper silicone gasket and fit it properly that will no doubt sort it. Let it cure for 24hours and it should be good.
