Used up my spare clutch cable and forgot to order a replacement now its held on by a few strands by the nipple near the handle. So I decided to solder to the bloody thing lol. I`ve ordered a new one now which will be here around weds I think it will last erm about a day. Taking predictions right now lol.
Also Anyone done this before as a temp fix or do you have a better fix to offer us
he says he makes his own cables if he cant get replacements using these brass nipples and soldering the cable into it. i asked him the solder holds and he said yh
but i was asking about a cable for my powervalve and i manage to find part numbers before i made my own
yeah as I thought had to google there.... choc blocks
have made up ends for home made cables in past with them for field bikes ect and they did the job fine in most cases out lasted the bikes lol
the cable on my 4dl broke on me once and I got 8 mile home by bumping it in second and slowing down almost to stand still to 3rd got me home at slow speed.....and yes trafic lights cought me out once or twice lol but still got back fine

Ive been riding about for 2 days without a clutch, I just kick it into neutral at the lights and give way streets, then just rock the bike backwards and forwards using the front brake and then kick it into first without any trouble at all. I was forced to do this otherwise I couldn't get places I needed to be lol
without a clutch or cable ???? even as a last resort if cable tie a bit of string round it and pull to change gear lol ...screw crashing throu gears or almost stoping to change gear
Soldering can make a perfect job but you have to be able to get to enough exposed cable and be able to either lose a little of the cables length or patch in a piece of cable, most of the time a good repair isn't possible as there isn't enough cable exposed but when it is it's possible to create a perminent repair. To make a good job you have to overlap the existing cable slightly, it will solder as this stage but it tins better and is easier to work with if you wind a little solid copper wire around the joint, the type you find in electrical wiring is perfect.
I've mended all kinds of cable in this way, motorbike cables, car seat latch cables, I've even repaired a multigym cable and the repair easily stands up to me maxing out the weights.

Dt's are bullet proof. I rode for weeks without a clutch cable and The gearbox is fine. They're not high powered machines they can take a little abuse.
