The best way to check if you're running lean Gareth, is to check the colour of your spark plug, take it out and if its a beigeish/grey/ white colour, then your running lean, if its a black oily carbon coloured plug, then youre running rich, you need it to be a light brown/ beige colour, for it to be right.

sometimes you can get a flat spot somewhere in the rev range but your plug might still look ok

if its lean, you'll get splutter or hesitating. if its lean as **** it will alot of backfire

there is a big flat spot before it comes onto power band

and also when revving from idle
