Average speed cams face your vehicle opposed to the normal cams that flash you from behind. So am i right in thinking bikes can do whatever speed they like through them?
iv been flashes head on a few times =] most of witch have my finger up or me doing something stupid haha the photo i want to see was raggin down a hill in darford doing about 55 on my ts50 then sore the lines i went throw it sidewards and i mean full lock back end out my mates thought i was going down the camera flashed in my face i was stairing right at it then just past the white lines it kicked back in i was so lucky
I went on one of them driver awareness courses so that I would not get the points on my licence and on there the guy said that they would not bother with a bike if it was just over and not done too often but that they put it in a folder and if you do the trip regularly and are taking the pi-- they will try and catch you in other ways and use the evidence that they have of you doing it that many times and then take you to court and you would be dealt with in a appropriate way (locked up and the key thrown away ) ha ha and them cameras DO work there were 26 of us on the day I was at and 21 I think it was were there from being caught in the average speed cameras on the A1 road works mine was from a camera van parked in a village mmmmmm
I know a bit about these cameras, growing up with a police inspector for a father it was about 13 years back so things may have changed a bit. but he told me theres only so many active camera units that are working at one time in a county due to limited resorces the flash works but it records nothing its just a deterent
but also they swich the working units around the county so no one actually knows whether there live or not.
I do use a nice little trick on rear end cams tho so i dont need to slow down just takes a little preplanning
lorrys work best but can be done with vans an other big vehicals
wait till the truck is on the inside lane just at that angle where the back of the trailers just about to pass the cam usually the front of the truck has already passed or almost passed the front of the speed markers on the road get the timing right you can just boot it straight through on the outter lane without the cam even knowing you were ever there
To keep all speed camera`s fully operational up & down the country is a very costly business. In 2010 The Department for Transport cut its national road safety budget by £38m and ended funding for new fixed speed cameras amid massive spending cuts. Speed cameras cost 50 times more than other methods of speed control and studies claiming they are effective and cost-effective are flawed. A camera costs £50,000 to install and the same money to run every year. So you can imagine the running costs for all camera`s to be working. So they do select the real speeding hot spots and accident prone zones that figures have proven from accidents etc because of speeding motorists. These spots you will find the camera`s working, but in other areas you will find they are not they are just there as a deterrent. Lets face it most drivers/riders automatically so down when they approach near to a camera but working or not this we never know until we see a flash or get notification through our letter box.
There is now quite a body of evidence that tends to weigh against the effectiveness of speed cameras. For example, the downward trend in accident statistics in the UK leveled off after money was spent on tackling speeding rather than on other road safety measures. Indeed, most of the claims for accident reduction from cameras can be assigned to the general trends in accident and injury reporting. Improved in-car safety, better medical treatment and increased under-reporting of accidents have all led to consistent reductions in reported injuries.
nath youve done a me an got it set to private m8,, do you run that with the restrictor plates in its carbs. or the restrictors just in your back pocket
Sorted that, ummmmmmmmmm well about the restrictors ummmmmmm, yeahhhhhhhhhh, in all fairness you don't really need um unless you either get pulled for speeding and need to prove it or if you get asked by insurance companies, like i did when re-insuring my DRZ this time bladdy stoopid!
regarding average speed cameras and if they work - yes and my dad had one on the m5 through road works averging 60 in a 50 restricted zone. there is a webiste dedicated to speed cameras and details all known devices the police use and it makes for interesting reading. I had to read up on it as i did have 9 points at 1 stage and i drive for a living. People often think the m42 by birmingham has variable speed limits with cameras that dont work - again i know someone who had 2 tickets in 2 weeks. Certain rear facing gatso cameras can catch you going the oposite way but without a number plate to identify you.........
