3MB Cylinder Head

YES ONCE I FITTED MINE THE FRONT END LIFTED UP INTO THE SOLAR SYSTEM!

Ha, just kidding buddy. Aye they make a difference in the low-mid range power and will give you a lot more pull. I can vouge for this as i had the restricted 3bn before.

Any news on the nikkon buddy? need some info as i'll be buying mine soon-ish if one of the lads buys my dep, thanks a lot.

No still have not ridden my bike with the nikkon pipe yet as the cylinder is being rebored and i,m fitting a new piston kit when it comes back. The pipe is so nice though and the first bend in the pipe alone is made up of 10 different sections and the main expansion part of the pipe is very big compared to standard but i don't know what effect that would have on performance.

I'd like to get a 3mb head and barrel to test the difference between that and the 'P' marked barrel and head, dont suppose anyone has already tested this? smile

I can get a 3mb p barrel fairly for £10-£20 probably but it needs a rebore. Hoping the guy down the breaker's has found what I think might have been an SP cylinder though :D

Does changing the 3bn head to a 3mb not make any difference then, that was next on my list of things to do lol.

It gives you more compression than the other one.

Yes thats the one my bikes a blue 2003 with working servo it should have a fresh top end with the 3mb head' nikkon exhaust and i just bought some blue samco hoses for it as well. I must say though even though the last topend had
11500 miles on it it still kicked over first time and would still do 75mph so i.m hoping after the above additions i should see some noticable gains.

I hear you get 10psi extra comression from 95 on a 3BN head and 105 on a 3MB. Not sure what this P and S barrel markings are though? Anyone know exactly what y-1 y-2 y-3 mean? I have a 3MB y-1 head and a 3mb y-3 head too =/

Maybe its Year ?

the Y1 is from a 2001 bike ? I might be completely wrong cause i see how this could be confusing if it was a 1991 model .. just a tought

Can't be. They have been varying on them since they started in 88, no pattern that i can see.

I was finally going to do the topend on my bike this weekend i got my cylinder back and piston kit after nearly three and a half weeks of waiting only to find out they had forgot to send out the small end bearing. I do not want to refit the the one thats in there now as its done 14000 miles im pissed off i was looking forward to doing that its going to be a scorcher of a weekend as well.

I'm about to do my top end with a 'P' marked barrel and head on my 02 DTR. Current top end is original with over 24k on it so i'm hoping for a fair improvement

My last top end was done just over 14000 miles ago and to be fair it has not missed a beat but it has now started to rattle on start up quite badly it will still do 75mph but i feel i,m really pushing my luck with it now. I will try to get a small end bearing tomorrow theres a couple of local places i can try theres inta bikes in maidstone and a yamaha dealer at brands hatch i could try if not it will not get done until the middle of next week but like i said in my other post this weekends going to be boiling hot about 33 degrees on sunday and i would much rather be out on the bike than sat at home sweating my nuts off.

Looking for a barrel myself so if you do spot something and could help me out then that would be awsome!

I might go for a wonder round the breakers now lol, I know there's a 4FU, a couple of standard 3MB's and a 3MB-P, but I'm grabbing that one. Let me know if you want anything and I'll grab it for you :)
