So, I'm riding along in Dorset (doing well) and having a moment of overtaking people, when I noticed the temp was climbing quite high. Thought I'd better chill it down, but it was still climbing. As I jumped off the road (no hard shoulder), a plume of steam exploded from the engine. Bugger, thinks I.

So, whilst I was having a ciggie and letting it cool, I kept cranking the kick start to keep it turning over. After a bit it cooled, and off I went again. Over heated immedietely. Bugger bugger bugger.

Pushed it for about a mile to get off the dual carrageway, then managed to get a bottle of water, and filled up the empty rad. Noticed it was pissing out the bottom. Bugger, think I again, the rad is split. Thankfully, I got it totally wrong and a cooling pipe from the cyclinder head to the carb had come off. I put it back on, and all was well. Did a further couple of miles and temp seemed to stay normal.

So, two questions, is that pipe supposed to have a jubilee clip on it, and is it ok filled with water, or is it supposed to run on proper coolant?

Thanks muchly,

Nath (old lad)

Yeah it's meant to have a jubilee clip on it, surprised it doesn't leak without one lol. And tap water's fine (although some people have different opinions) Just make sure you put some antifreeze in it before winter lol.

Yeah. Well really you should use distilled water with anti freeze. Once you've boiled off the water you'll leave lots of residue behind. I only use tap with anti freeze. I aint fazed tbf.

Can't remember the number of it. Locally know as the spur road I think, just before the Christchurch turn off.

Managed to find some spring clips at a local bike shop, and have since done Brighton, and now in Central London, and it's been absolutely fine. :)

Oh, filled with 100% collant.. well, maybe a few mills of water just to top it up.

Nah nothing. Like come to think of it can't see why it would hurt it. I just thought that the bottle says 40% water 60% coolant. Or is that with anti-freeze.

I was told by some old superbike rider that most race bikes run 100% coolant too. Thats what ive always done and since it's always ran just under half on the temp
