Hey guys

Wasnt sure if this was the correct place to post this, but im sure someone could move it or what

Anyway, got a 2000 dtr125, ive had like 3 head gasket changes on it since owning it, and every ride i have to top it up with water, it drips slowly and today my coolant bottle cap blew off(expansion)

heads been faced up with barrel using wet and dry sand paper, its been faced up everytime i change the gasket, reckon ive skimmed it that much i might need to head gaskets? or could i space out the base gasket so it stops the head from going?

any advice/info on this would be nice, as the bike will be going up for sale soon,

cheers guys

Usually first question on a problem like that Joe is "did you use a genuine Yamaha/Athena gasket"

All depends how much you sanded when facing up? I'm guessing you just gave it a light going over to make it uniform?

Yeah. Sounds like heads warped or you are not using genuine head gasket. It's vital to use a genuine gasket.

If you are overheating the cylinder then the chances are that you've warped the head and cylinder. Use real fine wet and dry paper and just do circular motion to the head and cylinder. Piece of piss to do mate.

Kind of off topic, but may be an issue

Does it matter which was the gasket is? Each side is slightly different

Yeah 12 quid is well worth the peace of mind. Athena do top end kits which are about 20 quid from wemoto i think. I ordered one of them thinking i was going to have to do a top end build after the powervalve issue but did it without.
