So Carlos Rex put a video up of my dt nearly reaching 40 a few months ago for everyone to wonder and laugh at!   I was recomended to check the carb and the reeds. So me and Carlos checked the carb out and it was all good inside then i checked the reeds they were all good but i put the carbon fibre race ones in anyway. Also just gave the bike a all round servicing.

AND ITS STILL SLOW AS FOOOOK!!!!!

CHECK THE VID

So do you guys think it must be something wrong in the top end? When i bought the bike the bloke had just changed the piston rings, maybe he did something wrong? Think i will swap the 3bn to a 3mb if anyones got one for sale?

There's plenty 3mb heads for sale.

Mate something must be seriously wrong for it to be doing that. What are the sprockets you got on it. Is the YPVS SERVO working? When you turn the ignition on does the YPVS do a cleaning cycle?

How many miles are on the clock? When he changed the rings did he reborn the cylinder. Maybe it just has bugger all compression.

How does the engine sound. Rough, sweet? Does it have a whistle to it when spooling down?

Is the YPVS completely set up wrong? Have a look at these things. It's got to be something well obvious!

its not automaticaly means some thing wrong with it ...it could just be a realy slow dtr with some restrictions in place like we said in the last topic .

so you changed the reeds and checked the carb ect ? di you do any of the derestrictions reed switch - exhaust - cdi ect ect ect .

was the rev's like rpm ? have you got the right rev cable on is it opening the carb fully hows the air filter .

if some one close has a dtr have you spent a day trying it with his carb cdi setup on see if it makes any diff ?

when i had the reed switch in and when my PV cables snapped i pinned the valve shut , it still went just over 60mph,

i think i would rebuild the engine, try another cdi, spare engine??

Mate if it's not doing over 40 then there is something seriously wrong or the gearing is stupid.

I fitted a pv and it def works fine. To double check it me and Carlos Rex pegged it open and it didnt do anything. The milage is unknown because the man who owned it before me bought the engine off ebay and fitted it "changing the rings too" god knows if he knew what he was doing or if it needed boring out. So i think im going to remove the barrel tonight to see if i can find a problem. I should prob get it bored and the head skimmed with a new piston. I will do what it takes as im giving up my car at the end of the month and cant have cyclist beating me off the lights lol
The engine doesnt sound to bad, i did think yesterday that it sounded slightly shuddery when idling but very minimal.
The gearing is normal on the back but 14teeth on front. which means it should have good acceleration and its purely gut less in every gear and rev range! theres no point when it suddenly pulls. Takes ages to get to 7000 and cant get past that. will reach 50 after a couple hours lol
Theres no reed switch on my bike, its a 1990, Carlos Rex thought he would find one and took the cover off the dials again and found theres just nothing there where the switch would be.
So are the only things left to check the top end and if the carb opens fully?

The one in the clocks is the speedo switch dude, that limits you going over 60 I believe.

:) getting down and dirty now! Undoing the barrel! I borrowed a bit of a crude compression gauge and it seems to be only 77psi! That's got to be it then! We will see.

Would this be good enough http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/AUTOMOTIVE-COMPRESSION-TESTER-GAUGE-KIT-PETROL-ENGINE-P-/270665922613?pt=UK_Diagnostic_Tools_Equipment&hash=item3f04f23835

Apparently then bn is 95 and the mb is 105. I didn't look it up andyYam said that's what he heard.
Tht tool you found Calum looks like the trick. I borrowed a mechanics spare one that doesnt actually screw in someone just has to press it down while you Kick. There's a obvious squeak if it isn't air tight.

Whooo got to the bottom of it. The idiot who had the bike before me never bored the worn barrel when he replaced the rings as well as using a **** head gasket that damaged the head! Planning to send the barrel to get bored at "road and dirt performance parts" in Leeds for 105 including putting a new stock mitaka piston in. He didn't recommend a better piston but said he can tune the barrel for a extra 150 to gain about 4more bhp.
Any thoughts or experience with this guys???

That 150 tuning cost was to skim the head also.
