1989 DT125R G184 BDC shes back home.....

Hi everyone

I have just managed to buy back my DT125R G184 BDC that I got brand new in 1989 20 odd years after selling it,me and my mate both got them at the same time his was G183 BDC needless to say im well chuffed. Im going to restore it to original but it will take some time as shes in a sad old state. Its been of the road since the early 90,s according to DVLA vehicle check. Anyway shes stripped and in bits now and the genuine parts collection has started.

Wow, this is a thread I would like to see. That must have been a fantastic feeling to get it back after all that time. My uncle still owns his Kawasaki Z900 that he rode away from the showroom. My dad would love to get back his original GT750 but he thinks it's been scrapped. If in 15 years or so i can buy back my RE i bought with 183miles on the clock I'd be overjoyed! Congratz Scrim and look forward to seeing the resto

My first little update

I have managed to get the 2 "DT" decals that are nla for the tank cowls. Plus the 2 bits of bodywork that are nla the N/S rear side cover in White and the O/S tank panel in White.

The decals came from Miles Kingsport Yamaha in Hull and Jacky Onda Yamaha in Nice France after googleing the part numbers.

I found Kingsport have a big list of old Yamaha part numbers all discounted on the net its worth taking a look, I also got the O/S side cover decal for half the list price from them even though its still available to order. The decal from France came up on the same search.

Both the nla panels came from Ebay France from a seller with user name jeanmarie8659 they also had a fair few DT bits and bobs and the postage was reasonable.

Oh and I got the 89 dealer brochure from ebay for 3 quid.

Anyway that's all the hard bits, well what I thought were going to be hard bits to find got already.

Nice one, you doing any powdercoating on the frame or swingarm? as you'll more than likely have a two week turn around waiting for all that to get done.

Btw that spray paint you were after for your  casings, the nearest I've found for my XT600, frame and casings is HYCOTE Rover GUNMETAL (metalic) Halfords jobby.

I'm going to get the wheels rebuilt, what rims would suit the White/Red bike best ? Satin Black anodised or Metallic Red anodised ?

Thanks for that for the cases Nev,

I wont be getting anything powder coated I don't like it and if it gets chipped and starts to lift its a nightmare to get off even with a sandblaster. I will just sandblast then paint the frame subframe swinging arm rear peg hangers tank and the rack in 2 pack primer and 2 pack topcoat myself.

Got everything I need to crack on with this now I bought a nice clean donor bike from ebay the other day for all the electrics and other bits n bobs one key lock set etc, Got a full set of new genuine plastics and decals they were the hardest bits to find, the 125R decals were a nightmare to get. Im just waiting for the wheels to be rebuilt with new rims and stainless spokes and an FMF pipe and silencer but they will be after Christmas now.
