New regs coming out soon that mean that bikes built before a certain year, will not need a mot anymore. Very strange. I am completely happy with having my bike MOT'd every year. Its like 30 quid once a year. Hardly breaking the bank and if it wasnt there. imagine all the dangerous bikes that would be on the road!

.... Im glad i dont have to MOT my dt, Then i would have to make it standard once every year xD. And why would there be dangerous bikes out there ?

people with bikes dont go around driving with dented rims, or bad shocks or anything thats immediatly dangerous, Your shocks has to be very worn for them to be dangerous, And the rims if their dented their just going to wobble a bit after a certain speed.

And if your brakes are bad your not gonna be wanting to ride around on it. If your bike is full of rust so that it might fall apart it looks ugly a long time before that happends and no one drives around with a bike that looks like its falling apart.

Common sense is what people should have, Ive never seen a bike in norway and tought " Thats dangerous " Because of it being in bad condition.

If your bike is in bad condition you fix it !, No need for the government to supervise your maintenance..

It doesnt have to be standard for an MOT over here. It has to be safe to ride. I think your getting confused between the EU regulations and an MOT.

It's a basic test to see if the machine is road worthy.

Tyres, wheels, bearings, brakes, lights, indicators etc. The speedo doesnt even have to work.

As far as people driving with dented rims, they do i assure you. There are plenty of people who may have a bike that has poor brakes, leaking fork seals, knackers wheel bearings and will still ride it around on the road. This may be because they don't think about what could happen but also could be that it is their only means of transport and can't afford to fix it. I've seen loads of bikes over here that I've gone to look at to buy and thought " that shouldnt be on the road". I've just come back from a 2050 miles round trip on the DT125R from the most south of england to the most north of scotland and back. My friends fork seals were leaking from the offset and he ignored it all the way. The fork oil was leaking down the forks and going all into the front brake caliper and all over the pads and disc. Thats dangerous but he carried on riding it.

Wheels just wobbling a bit a certain speed can be extremely dangerous. Maybe not so much on a 125 but on a bigger bike that can do faster speeds then you're looking at a death trap.

What you've gotta remember is that not everyone is as clued up as you and I on maintainence. Think of someone who has no idea about where to find the engine on a car. If it wasnt for a mot they probably wouldnt check the brakes etc until they failed. I think the MOT is a good thing.

30 quid a year, meh...pennies compared to the lives they save.

1960 I think it is? Long way off for the DTs yet

I don't like MOTs as there is so much I have to change just to swap back the next day - having said that bikes aren't too bad but it's annoying with cars

Doesnt that just go to show though? You're happy to ride on a bike with a faulty indicator and brake light? I wouldnt want to. Not being seen is one the biggest causes of motorcycle deaths so having an indicator and a brake light ( 2 things made to make you visible) out or broken raises your chance of an accident.

Yeah and unless you can time machine your bike to be made befre 1960 it never will :P!

What do you have to change though for the mot?

I was assuming with each year it would go up? So next year it will go to 1961, or maybe every 5 years change it only makes sense :)

Probably laugh.. but it's a bit of a chav chariot main issue is raising the suspension so it can get on the ramps

Then put the cat back on, change headlights, numberplate lights it's a good days work and again after the mot

Don't get me wrong if it was standard it would be completely fine but I have a need to mess things up
